RE: Article on CNNmoney

I agree with Dusty.
Want a mix, rescue. Want a pedigree that goes back a hundred years, and one specific pedigree for very specific reasons, get a purebred.
Otherwise, buy a doberman, they can be however they come, because they are so good looking.

Oh my goodness! I didn't mean no one should pay good money for a dog!!  lol  I am just way tooooooo cheap! lol  I was just lucky Molly was there that day. I am sure I would have brought one of the others home that day, but I really wanted a small dog and she was perfect. Of course, that is a whole other story about how it all happened, but too tired to type it all!

It was meant for us to have Rocky, too. He is the greatest dog ever. They both fit in with our lifestyle and all is good.

I didn't mean for you to think I was being mean about it!! I would love to have one of your pooches, they are one of my favorites!!!  As someone else said, as long as you and your babies are happy that is all that matters!!

i dont think anyone took it as you being mean mpp. lol i was just saying that its good to get a mix from a shelter rather than pay an arm and a leg for one. i would get a frenchie from a rescue or shelter if they ever had any. but they are so rare in this state that i have never even seen any for sale in the papers around here. and the breeders that do have them have such long waiting list. we are thinking about getiing another one in a few months, but there are no rescues around here and they dont ship.so we will probably have to go through either rocky or annies breeders when we decide to make that move.

I agree MPP. A cute saying I heard the other day, 'different strokes for different folks' hehe

I plan on paying about 800-1000 when I get a mastiff breed someday. I guess it's each person's preference. Like, I can totally see paying a lot for an english mastiff or a frenchie. Because they all are that price.

As far as the article is concerned, I guess re-reading it, I can see how, based on preferences, people might be willing to pay that much for a dog if they have, say allergies or something. I guess my big thing is when people breed designer dogs and say they are rare and that's why they are that price. I think that's deceiving. If they are super super expensive, I think they should have more of a reason than they're rare. They sure are cute though!

i agree with that. they breed mixes and call them designer breeds. and charge a whopping amount of money for them. they lead people to believe that they are getting some rare new breed, when they could go get the same type of dog from a shelter for a fraction of the price. basically they are only breeding for money. they are no better than puppymillers. the last time i was at the shelter, they had several young dogs of "designer breeds", probably the ones that didnt turn a profit for them. i can only hope that they found homes.

My mom has one available pup, that is the best of his breed in the country.
She seriously does not know how to advertise it. She has not even taken pictures.
I swear some people are so clueless...

Its not just designer breeders that annoy me. Okay...I'll be looking online and I will see the prettiest looking merle great dane female. Below her picture it says rare blue marble $2000. And let me add that this actually occured a year ago. I called the woman on the dog and she was acting like she knew everything on Danes and I knew nothing. I just told her that her female was a merle and should only be sold for the amount a adoption would cost (250-300) and that she sould be spayed. Then this woman told me that this female was going to be a perfect dog to breed. I almost feel over backwards. I feel sorry for whoever buys her because they will feel awfully stupid saying how their dog is rare while she is only a merle. Sorry that was long. Just to prove that some purebred breeders are clueless, and I think this woman proved to be the most clueless.

We paid 1700 for our frenchie and 350 for our Husky.  My biggest problem with these "Designer" breeds is that many people have poodles and many people have labs, if you want those mixed together find someone who had an accidental litter and save a life and your money.  I can understand allergies and being cautious about your breed of dog but I find it highly retarded to mix breeds and call it a designer breed, to me it's a mutt....dont get me wrong I love mutts, they can turn out to be the best dogs ever.  My parents had a mutt when I was growing up and she was great.   I can get going on a whole tangent on that subject  "designer dog"  BAH

i ran accross something similar right here last week. there are NO frenchies here, NONE. i have never seen any in the paper until a few weeks ago. ad said own a designer breed , we have frenchtons and others.  so i had to call. she had a purebred frenchie , a purebred pug and a poodle. she was mixing them and selling them for 600-800 dollars and some were more. she didnt do any health testing on breeds that are prone to health issues, like frenchies and pugs. and she saw nothing wrong with breeding these mixes. her females were not even a year old ! i told her that i had two frenchies and if i decide to breed, it will be after i have any and all testing done and only after annie is two years old , at least.and i would only breed them together. when i asked her if she knew what a byb is ,she hung up on me.and last week at rocky and annies vet check-up. the vet informed me that my babies were not the only frenchies there anymore they had 4 new frenchie mix puppies. geezzz, i wonder where they came from !

Surprisingly enough I have never seen a frenchie in person. Even when I worked at petsmart I never saw them.

I love taking our frenchie into the vet and places because very few people ever see one.  I do get a little frustrated when people TELL me what breed my dog is...."your boston/pug is SOOO cute"   "I have a boston at home"  (if you have a boston at home wouldn't you recognize that she's a frenchie not a boston?????

i think what throws people off with my frenchies is their coloring. i have had people think they are a pug or pug mix. but the black masked fawn and red coloring is not a color of a boston. i have yet to hear anyone say  oh, you have french bulldogs. its usually what kind of dog is that ! . lol
