I was just curious how everyone potty trains their pups, i know we probly do it differnt ways and since im in the potty training process Id like to see what worked for everyone and what hasnt.
When I potty train I constantly take my puppy outside and praise it for going to the bathroom. When the puppy is inside I watch him like a hawk. And when I leave and he cant be supervised I put him in a crate. So far this is working for me, Hyde's only had about 3-4 accidents which i think is pretty good for an 11 week old. At night he sleeps on the bed with us, and he sleeps threw the night so i dont have to worry about him going then.
I did this same thing with Sydney and she was impossible to potty train, took me 8 months for her to finely be trusted in the house. I guess some things dont work for some dogs but works for others.
With Hunter, I took him outside every half an hour when I first got him (He was only 8 weeks old) and said the same command everytime, 'Go Potty'. If he went, I praised him like crazy and gave him a treat. But if he didn't go, I put him in his crate and ignored him for 15 minutes. Then I would take him back out. Everytime he wouldn't go, I put him back in his crate. Pretty soon he learned to go on command. If he had an accident, I would say no in the loudest voice I could and immediately take him outside. Then I would clean the area with an enzyme cleaner. If he went potty outside, I would let him run around the house, but I would still close the bedroom and bathroom doors so that he had to stay in the main part of the house. If I had to do something like fix the kids lunch, answer the phone, etc. then I put him in his crate. At first I was worried that he wasn't catching on, because he kept having accidents, but after a few weeks he got it.
With Ella, I did the same thing, but instead of taking her outside, I took her to her area where her puppy pads are. I got her in the winter, and was having a heck of a time getting her to go outside in the cold weather, so I just litter box trained her with puppy pads.

It's funny, because potty training Hunter was the whole reason I resorted to the internet for advice and found the pet forums. I was really frustrated because I was doing everything I had read in books, and he just didn't seem to be getting it. The best advice I got was 'patience' and it was so true, because I had only been training him for about a week. A week later, he was fully potty trained. I just had to be consistent and not give up on what I was doing.

harvey was pretty much trained when we got him ..he just needed some fine ajustments so we used to left him out every 20/30 minutes and praise him when he went he picked it up straight away. What you are doing sounds fine if its working then dont change a good thing.
With Oscar I took him out every hour and then as he got older it was every two hours. And then I took him out after he played, after he ate, and after he woke up. I was a stay at home mom then so I had the time to do it. And then when we left we would block him in the kitchen. We were never gone for more than a few hours so he only had like a couple accidents in the kitchen. All in all he was potty trained in a couple weeks. And during the night he slept with me.
You know, Hunter has always been the mellowest dog and Cattle Dogs aren't too known for barking or whining, so I didn't have any problems there. But we also got him at a shelter, so he was already used to kennels and such.
Ella on the other hand was a different story, lol. She drove me nuts when we first got her! What I found was the best method was completely ignoring her. Anytime I would go in there, even though it was to scold her or whatnot, she always took that as getting attention. So what I did was put her kennel in the bathroom in the farthest part of the house, close the door, and put a towel at the bottom to muffle the sounds. That way I couldn't hear her whining. But the thing with this, is because you can't hear them as well, you have to be really careful about watching the time and taking them out a lot to go potty. But one thing I made sure of, was if I was going to let her out just to play, and not to go potty, I would not let her out until she stopped whining. The minute she stopped whining I would go in and say 'Good Girl!' give her a treat and let her out. She learned really quick that going potty meant running around the house, and that being quiet meant running around the house, lol. But I'm not kidding, for like a week, she would literally bark and whine all night long. I couldn't hear it while I was sleeping, but I would still set my alarm clock every 2 hours to take her out to go potty.

I found a great potty training book that helped me out alot when we got my mothers dog loki. It was called potty training for dummies. LOL sounds funny but it really helps. I got it cause trinity was already potty trained and I didn't want trinity to take after loki and start using the restroom in the house all the time but I didn't want her to think she was in trouble when I yelled at loki for something so eachone had a different word that I used on them when they got in trouble and that seemed to really help.
i trained my frenchies to potty pads.the vet told me that they are not fully protected from deseases until after they have completed the full series of puppy shots. she didnt want them in public or grassy areas until after they were done with their shots. about two weeks after they had completed their shots, i introduced them to the outdoors. they took to it right away and go outside on their own when the need arises. they had a few accidents at first but then they just started going ourside on their own to potty. i lock the doggie door at night and let them out first thing in the morning. they do fine.
well, it took me awhile, but i figured out how to use the toilet by the age of 16, and i think i have it mastered now. the whole '' folding the paper '' thing can be confusing sometimes,but..................oh,......um........ahhh.........eeerrrr.......u mean nora. oops!!! she was trained for the most part when i got her, but i did have to use the nose rub a few times, now she is great and lets me know when she has to go
LOL in some cases this goes for men too. When my guy room mate was here he would always piss me off cause I would stumble to the bathroom at like 5am to use the restroom and he wouldn't put the toilet seat down. I always would go into his room and put the towel I wiped the water off with on him. LOL he hated me for it and I always told him it wouldn't happened if he wouldn't leave to toilet seat up. It took him about 1 week to learn not to leave it up. LOL
LOL I agree dusty cause at some point in time they will fall in as well if women started leaving it up plus we aren't the one who puts it up in the first place.
