I need to go to the dentist but right now we can't afford it. I have no insurance so I have no idea how much it will cost. I haven't been to the dentist since I was pregnant. I have a phobia of going there. But anyways, one of my wisdom teeth are coming in but thats not the problem. Not long ago I was eating something and one my very back tooth it flaked off a bit. I never thought anything about it until tonight. I was trying to look at my wisdom tooth and I noticed where it flaked. And right where it flaked it like a huge cavity. Sucks!!!! But it doesn't hurt. I hate spending this type of money on me but I was wondering if y'all think I can put it off a few more months before I can get it fixed. Maybe until next February...or at least until me and Brad get our money. Help!!! I am almost in tears because of this. I really do hate the dentist that much.
Well, I was cut off of my dads insurance when I turned 19 because I wasn't a student, which is a bunch of bull...He has my own plan, but I only have medical insurance, no eye or dental right now(paid out of pocket, 400 for new glasses, eye exam, etc in march! shew). He's going to try and set up a payment plan for me because I have 3 cavities, they don't hurt but I don't want them to hurt cause that means I may need a root canal or something (or so I've read). If you don't have insurance or money right now, Can you set up a payment plan with your dentist? If you dont mind me asking, why don't you have insurance? If it doesn't hurt, then I'd hold off until you can pay for it...you never know what may come up :/
My job doesn't give insurance because I am self contracted. The only person in this house with insurance is Kaitlyn. I thought about going to the university here and getting them to do it. I would be a class project though and that doesn't sound like much fun.
You'd be an experiment, a lab rat! ha! I wouldn't have insurance right now if it wasn't for dad. My friend was just diagnosed with a heart condition, and her insurance doesn't come into play until November, so it's all going to be out of pocket for all the tests, etc! I don't know how they expect people on a fixed income to come up with thousands in doctor bills. Idiots, I swear.
omg deja vu or how ever you spell that! I just went to the dentist today for the same thing only it was a tooth second from the back! Well i need a root canal and a crown. I waited WAYYYY to long . I have dental insurance and i am still going to have to pay $600 for that tooth. So the longer you wait the worse it will get. If i didnt have insurance it would have cost me over $1300!!! eeps! My suggestion is to either charge it or to go to the dentist and tell them what is up, have them check it out and get an estimate. PLUS alot of dentist do payment plans. Call around and ask about it.
Man don't say that word. I hate the dentist. They way they almost always aly the tools out right in front of you on the little table. Plus my teeth are really sensitive and it even hurts to get my teeth cleaned.
i dont know about where you live, but here they have places that you can get your teeth done on a sliding scale or you can go to the colledges and get work done very cheap. i myself, wouldnt put it off. when the cavity eats its way through to the nerve, you will be in severe pain. if it happens during the night you will suffer. they can put a temporary filling in it that will probably last until you can afford to get it filled or a root canal done.
Right, get it done as soon as possible. As time goes on, prices go up also.
My husbands wisdom tooth had gotten infected, he said he got extrememly sick. He say's he could have died from it. But with infections in your body it is dangerous. Also, there is a credit card called Care. I believe most offices offer it. It may be a good idea to get all four wisdom teeth out once you do do it to, so's to not have problems in the future.
OMG Erica and Paige! This is sooooo weird because we are going through the same exact thing with my hubby right now! Erica, he also needs a root canal and a crown. Whoa. Weird. Lol
We contacted the Dental College in Denver, and they can have a student do it (they are supervised by a dentist, so it's actually a lot safer than you would think) for $600. We have dental insurance, but it only covers cleanings and that's it. If we have our dentist do it, it will be $1800. But he offers payments plans of $100 a month. We can't decide if we should just do the payment plan thing, or go to the dental college. Because the dental college is like a 1/3 of the price, but it's due at the time of the procedure. And we just don't have $600 laying around right now. And if we do payments, we will have paid over $3000 in doctor bills this year so we can claim it on our taxes.
If you can find a dentist that will do payments, I would actually advise that, because if you have paid more than $3000 in one year in medical, you can claim it on your taxes. If the payments each month plus other medical combined don't add up to $3000, I would just go to a dental college. And also Paige, if it helps, they can totally knock you out now to do these kinds of procedures. So you're not even awake for it and won't remember anything. When I had my wisdom teeth removed, they did a shot in my arm, and I literally was out in like 10 seconds and don't even remember any of it. I remember coming home and that was it. I don't even remember waking up and being brought to the car, lol.

wow it is weird that 3 people in the same forum are going through the same dental stuff! I was suppose to have it done on the 1st BUT my husband is on his way home and i am not going to spwnd my 2 weeks with him drugged up, so i am going to reschedule.
Where do you live Paige? I am xx low income, and will only use female dentists, doctors etc. In So Cal, I know options. Otherwise, look up clinics in your area. They are cheaper than private dentists. If they don't give you a quick enough appt. go in as an emergency, or walk-in. Some are low pay, or free on proof of income.
Well, about a year ago a piece chipped off of my back tooth but it didn't bother me so......... this 4th of July weekend I woke up with a swollen face and one heck of a toothache that went from my jaw all the way up to my ear & continued to my eye!
Root canal, step one is now done. I go back next week for the crown. With dental insurance it is still going to cost me about $800. Had I gone when it had first happened a simple filling would have probably been all that was needed.
