I know alot of people have lost alot of pets and I was just wondering how many pets have been lost and how they died? If you wish not to tell us how they died that is fine.
When I was 5, we got a little terrier dog named Lady. She was red/rust color with white markings. She was just a pup, we had her for about a month and she broke off her chain (or somebody let her off) and ran away and got hit and killed by a car. Luckily the man that hit her brought her into the vet's office and he called us from there.
When I was 6, we got a dalmatian puppy, named Shiner, from some family that bred to sell to pet stores (bad decision, I know, but I was 6 and my family was very uneducated back then). We got her because she was one of the ones that the pet stores didn't want, so we got her for like $50. We had her not even a month and she developed some kind of urinary tract crystals, which I guess is common in female dalmatians. There was nothing to be done for her, so we had her put down.
When I was 7, we got Hank. Hank was a rat terrier and my grandpa gave him to us, as he'd found him one day while he was mowing his lawn. Hank jumped right up onto the riding lawn mower one day and my grandpa fell in love with him and wanted us to have him. He was the best dog ever and we had him till I was about 11?? He developed a tumor on his pancreas and it was inoperable, so the vet put him down. I still miss that dog!!
When I was 11 or 12, we got another rat terrier, named Taz. He was a puppy and he was the most evil lil sh*t there ever was. He bit us every time we went to take him out of his kennel and one day he drew blood on my dad and he had enough, so he took him out and shot him. Sad but true, he shot him on Christmas morning. We had him for about 6 months. I really didn't miss that dog though, I don't think anyone could've done anything about his mean demeanor.
When I was 14, we got a cockapoo named Buddy (changed from Midnight). He was 7 years old when we got him and he had heart problems and my parents didn't want to spend the money on heart meds. So we had him for about 5-6 months and he just died one day. Fell down the steps dead.
When I was 15, we got Daisy, a border collie mix. She was a sweet pup, only 9 months old. We kept her outside for the day and brought her in at night. We got her in the summer and in November, one of our neighbors took her from us and we never saw her again. Hopefully she's in a good home now, that will care for her forever. She was a good dog.
When I was 18, we got Mollie. She's still with us. She's nothin but a spoiled brat!! lol But I love my little spoiled brat. She's my whole world.
When I was 19, we got Chopper. He's still with us too. He's an awesome spoiled little brat. He's one of the smartest dogs I've ever known. Very much reminiscent of our Hank.
When I was 20, we got Eli, a seven year old doberman. We got him last June 26 from the Doberman Rescue of Nebraska. He was the sweetest dog ever. He'd been neglected, abused, and found as a stray. He was such a good dog. Even though life had treated him so poorly, he still found it in his heart to be as sweet and lovable as he could be. He had the worst nasty dragon breath, but I still would let him lick me, he didn't do it very often and I always felt like he'd be sad if I didn't let him lick me. He developed really bad arthritis, after we'd had him for about 6-7 months. When we finally realized how bad it had gotten, we put him on meds and discussed what to do/ what we could afford. The meds were spendy and we definitely couldn't afford them, as much as I wanted to. They didn't even keep him comfortable for a full 24 hours, so we decided to put him down. Even to the last day, he got up when Brad went to work, and came in and lay down at the foot of the bed, just as he'd done every single morning that we had him. We had him put down on March 18, 2005. He is still missed.
This past June, we got Lexie, another doberman. She's a happy, healthy 1-year-old. She's as happy as a lark, doing whatever she can do.
I've also lost many other pets, including: Thumper and Jack- brother gerbils, Winnie and Greg- hamsters, Raphael- painted turtle (we let him go), Pinchy- crawdad (let him go with Raphael), Speedy, Spike, and Spot- salamanders (were let go), Rukahs- African Albino Clawed Frog (he got out and died in my bedroom), a hermit crab that just died one day, Bugs- a bunny (gave him away), Spike- iguana (gave her back to her original owner), a gecko that I caught in Mississippi- he got out of the terrarium and I never saw him again, a toad- he died of starvation (he wouldn't eat), two guinea pig littermates, Garth and George- gave them away, many many fish, crabs and shrimps that all died. I think that's it.
my first goldfish died cause i was ignorant as a kid, and changed his water to often, other than that, i had a hampster named harvey who went of old age, and 6 st bernards now. the first one of old age, the second had a heart attack, the third was malpractice of the vet, the fourth was pts cause of a tumor that grew from the eye to the brain, the fifth of old age, and we all know about the sixth. my trixie gurl. i miss them all sooo much. esp the one that had the heart attack, her name was jade and she was my favorite. i had 4 at the time, ( one male and 3 female) jade was the mom of the other 3. i called her "bug" short for jade r bug, (say it fast and u will get it) she was so perfect and dainty. she was gorgeous and knew it. lol. even had a perfect ladylike bounce of the tail when she walked. ooooooooohhhhhhh bug!!!! i miss u!!!!
When I was first born my mother had a doberman/sheperad mix named star. He was such a sweet dog. When I was born he became my dog because he wouldn't listen to anyone else. When ever I would cry he would growl at anyone that was around me. I rode him like a horse and even stuck branchs from trees in his collar to make him look like a raindeer. LOL. My grandparents went out back to feed him one day and he wouldn't come to them. When my grandfather looked at him closer he had found that star had such bad arthritis that star couldn't stand so my grandparents had him put to sleep.
When I was 10 I had a yorkie named ziggy. He was such a sweet dog. I didn't even have him for a year. Some day he got out of the backyard. My mother and me put an ad in the newspaper and we put signs up. Then one day a guy called and described him perfect all the way done to the hole he had in his head from being biten by a dalmation. Then when I told the guy that was my dog he hung up. I was so upset.
3 months after we lost ziggy my mother took me to get another yorkie honey. My mother couldn't take me being so upset. Honey was a great dog she didn't even have a leash cause she would never leave my side. Someone stole here from our backyard. She was about 9 months old. Once again we posted signs and put and ad in the paper. I even drove up and down the streets calling her and looking in open doors to see if she was in someones house. LOL. We never even got a call.
About 1 year later I took in a kitten that had been abandoned by there mother. There where 4 others but an old dog house that they had crawled under collapsed and a little black one had to be shot cause its neck broke and it was still alive. My 2 friends that lived next door and across the street from me took one each and then I took a white one and named it snowflake. Then after having the kitten for about 4 months she got ring worms. My mother and me didn't have the money to take care of her and also my mother told me not to touch her but I couldn't handle a kitten at my feet crying so I picked her up and held her till my mother took her to the humane society.
After this my mother and me adopted a doberman/german sheperd mix from the ASPCA Her name was anne. She got attached to me right away. Then we had to take her back about 2 months later cause any other animals that would come up too me she would try to attack but never leave my side so if the animal went far enoguh away she would leave it alone.
I never had another pet until my 12 or 13 birthday I went and adopted a kitten from the pound. That was tabatha. I still have her. 1 year later my mothers friend asked us to watch her kitten but ended up never picking him up. That kittens name is tigger and we still have him. My mother did adopt a kitten when we got tabatha but he got out of the house one night and we woke up the next morning and found him dead and already stiff in the drive way we don't know what killed him.
After these when I was 18 after we had moved to dallas. I moved to dallas when I was 15. I had gotten trinity, all my rats, and another cat. And most of ya'll already know all of these dogs are with me. I also had adopted a dog that my mother wanted. The dog my mother wanted was a terrier mix that was 10 years old, deaf, and blind. My mother said she was so ugly she was cute. Her name was sunset. We had her for 2 months till we had to put her down cause of a severe cause if heartworms. After sunset I got loki for my mother we ended up giving him to me uncle and he is still alive.
my mums house is like a pet cemetary..everysingle pet we had from a goldfish to goats and dogs are buried there so they will always be in the place they loved the most.
Rest in peace~
Pepper a sheep dog who was a rescue but had a serious heart condition and couldn't carry on so she was pts.
Ricky a jack russle who was chastised by a little boy and ricky bit his hand . He was pts as mum couldnt take any chances with a baby around,
Josephine the pygmy goat who was very old got neumonia (sp) and died in her sleep.
Penny our wire haired jack russel.died of old age.
chinks the chinchilla who died ..have no idea why?
Frank the lizard who died..have no idea why?
coco the cockatiel who died form presumably old age.
Porkpie the tortoise died during hibernation,
and numerous other loved pets but too many to mention
I know Death domes to all and everthing living but when the time comes for Harvey to go ..i know my heart will be broken forever. He is my pride and joy ,absolutely precious to me and i love him dearly.
Ahh good ol' sammy cat, she was my daddy's yellow/white tabby stripped kitty. She was old and ended up having a medical problem. I was in 4th or 5th grade when my parents put her to sleep so I dont remember what she had.
Then Shadow....the mutt....stinky, yucky shadow. She was the same age as I was, loved her to death but at 14 and younger I couldn't handle the smell that permeated from her. We had moved into a new house when I was 10 or 11 that had a pool in the backyard. We hadn't gotten around to fencing it off from the dogs yet. Shadow was old and had arthritis bad, her hips would lock up on her and she'd just lay down till it passed. Well daddy rescued her once from the depths of the pool, but the second time she did it while we were at work and school.
We convinced my parents to get another dog and we got Snoopy. A purebred neutered dalmation, a friend of my dad's didn't have time for him so we offered to take him (on a trial basis that lasted about 8 years ) Anyways, he was fat, we put him on a diet. Moved my sister to Alabama, and when we came home he was SKINNY!! We took him into the vet about a week afterwards, I suspected something was wrong but parents wouldn't quite listen. Found out his kidneys were producing too many enzymes and he was diabetic. There was nothing we could do so he's living in doggy heaven now.
While I was living on my own I got a little kitten I called Turk. His hind legs were longer than his front legs and he didn't have a tail (all his siblings and his mama did though) so he kind of looked like a rabbit when he ran. Shortly after I got all his vaccines of him I got a call that the rest of his siblings and mama tested positive for leukemia. I took him back in and the vet was nice enough to not charge me for the test or anything since i had just gotten his shots. Turk tested leukemia positive and I had to have him put down. (I didn't know that he would be able to live much longer with it as he was maybe 12 weeks or so old.)
Plus my numerous fish over the years....my favorites were my Oscars....They get HUGE!!! I just wish I had a bigger tank so they wouldn't have fought and taken chunks out of each other. They eventually ended up dying of ICK after I'd had them for 4-5 years.
We had a St. Bernard when I was born. Her name was Judy. She was the greatest. My sisters and I would use her as a pillow when we watched TV. When my little sister came along, Judy put her head in the bassinet and started growling. My mom locked her in the bathroom and called the vet. The vet told her that there was nothing she could do. the dog would eventually hurt the baby and so had to be PTS.
My next dog was Schatze. she was a doberman/collie/shepherd/? mix. She was the best dog ever. She died while I was at college. She was old and had arthritis. One day while the UPS man was making a delivery she went out and went in front of the truck. The guy never saw her. That was really bad. She was the greatest.
We also had several cats over the years. They all died of old age. One, Poochy lived to be 19.
I now have Lucy (cat) who is 13. She's starting to randomly pee all over the place. I'm taking her to the vet. I'm afraid that they're going to tell me to put her down. She's had a rough life before she came to us. Not abused, but neglected. She was fed when they remembered, she drinks out of the toilet because she never had a fresh bowl of water, and her litter was never cleaned. the vet told me at her last checkup that her history may have put a lot of stress on her kidneys and liver. I'm hoping for the best. At least she's had 4 pampered years.
We also have Casey a poodle/cavalier mix who is the love of my life. He's such a sweetie. We're getting another puppy next week. His name is Iko.
For any Dead fans, that's Loose Lucy, Casey Jones and Iko Iko.
Wow, I have had so many animals over the years. I lived on a farm growing up. I will try to single out the ones that were actually mine.
I had an awesome little rooster named Ricochet - Coyotes probably got him. He was the coolest bird. He used to ride on my shoulder all the time.
I had a cat named Nips(cream tabby with two little "nips" out of her ears), and a cat named Slater(Completely black. He was named after Christian Slater - lol I was 10!), I also had a WONDERFUL cat named Jane Doe that was only mine, she was a wild cat that I had caught and tamed but she didn't like anyone else but me. Oscar, Shanaa(cream tabbies and also brother and sister)All of these cats were probably taken by coyotes too. There were others that weren't specifically mine - Jafar, Nika, Christy, Fieval, there are many others that I cannot off hand remember their names.
I also had a couple pigs that were mine (they raised them but I refused to eat them but I had a couple that I adopted and raised) Babe was my baby, he was a runt that was kicked away by his mom, I started to bottle feed him in a seperate area and he would come and cuddle on my lap well, when he was over 800 pounds, he would still try to cuddle up on my lap! lol I have no idea what happened to him, my moms ex husband probably ate him out of spite. We moved to town and I had no way at all of taking him. He was that kind of person. I also had a female pig and for some reason I am completely lost on her name, she was a great little pig though and I did pick her out. I am having a brain lapse! lol
I also got given a dog named Spike, who became my best friend, he got off one night and was killed by a pack of coyotes.
We had a dog named Hobo who was a wonderful dog, a golden mix, I think, He was hit and killed by our neighbors car in the middle of the night, he didn't come and tell us but we were told that if he had we may have been able to save him.
Shortly after we moved from there I was given a kitten who was named Tiocy (my mom had the mother cat named Senora) I still have Tiocy. I was also given a very beautiful kitten named Billy the Kitty. I loved that cat to death. One day when I was out on our deck (still lived in the country, just a different house) an owl just came down and grabbed him from right next to me, there was nothing I could do.
I had two betas named Lepsian and Patoche'. They died of old age.
Tiocy's mom had another litter of kittens and I got to keep one of them and I named her Topsy. She was a silly cat and when ever you went to pet her, she would flip over onto her back. Hence, the name Topsy.
We had many other animals along the way, my mom had given me a beagle/basset mix named Pepsi when I was around 12-13 and when I went to move out, she refused to give her to me. I still miss her.
After I moved out, I took Tiocy and we moved into our own apartment. Somehow and we still do not know how, she got out and got pregnant and returned without us ever knowing she got out, one day she just started having kittens! (She never showed much with her litters) Anyway, I had decided to keep one of the kittens a little Siamese looking one that I had named Furari. (All the kittens had car names - Diablo, Mercedes, etc.) The day I called my husband and told him what kitten I wanted to keep, he went missing. I searched and searched for him. I finally found him the next day, he had fallen off of our washer and broken his neck. I was so very upset about that. :(
A year later we lived in Minnesota and we were staying in a motel (husbands work) I had someone watching Tiocy. But I was lonely because she was in a different state. So I talked the management into letting us have a fish there. THey said we could and so we got a beta named Dude.He was the most tempermental fish but I loved him. He died of probably old age as he was old when we got him. I cried over him dying.
After we moved back and we got our cat again, I think I was 19, I started volunteering at one of the shelters, I fell in love with two of the puppies in a litter and we ended up taking one of them home that night and coming back a week later for the other one. They were border collie/Chow mixes. They were about 2 months old when we got them. Chloe was the second puppy we brought home. After a trip to the vet for problems eating and drinking, and two surgeries as well as other tests, it was determined that she had a congenital defect of her throat and the only way she could survive was to be tube fed and I did not feel that was a good quality of life for a four month old bouncy puppy. We had her put to sleep at 4 months old. I felt so horrible but I knew it was right.
Chuka was the sister to Chloe and the first pup brought home. She was healthy and super smart, however, she was pretty stubborn (the chow in her) She was honestly my pride and joy. Unfortuately, she got out of the dog kennel and was hit by a car. The person that hit her never stopped and the other traffic drove around her. Note, that she was not killed when she was hit, she was sitting in the road yelping. I ran over (about half a block) and carried her back to the house. She died on the way to the vet. I still miss that dog like crazy. She was honestly one of the best dogs I have ever owned. She was only 9 months old when she was killed.
We have had alot of other cats and dogs but most were rehomed and I have had some foster kitties that didn't make it.
I also had Dudley, many of you may remember him, he was our Syrian hamster. They are supposed to live only around two years but Dudley was put to sleep at the age of 4. He was a great hamster, he would crawl all over the cats. He was adopted from the shelter. He started having problems were his stomach started getting very large but you could feel him and tell he was actually losing weight, I think he had some sort of Tumor. He was a good old boy and he will be very missed.
I got Koda shortly after Chuka was killed. He is truly the best dog in the world, I did rehome him but got him back and he is here for good! We recently got Kaia and many of you know that she has medial luxating patellas in both her knees and we are going to have to do surgery on both knees and we are going in soon to have her x-rayed and looked at for her hips and I hope they are in good condition because I am not sure how we will come up with that money.
I know that there are animals that I did not mention or that I have forgotten. I miss them all and it is going to kill me when Tiocy and Asha and Cinder and Koda and Kaia all have their time. I am particularly nervous about Tiocy because she has completely bonded with my 3 year old. I am not sure what she will do when her kitty goes to kitty heaven. :( She is 9 now, hopefully she will me a whole lot older when she goes.
We had a Chow named Trixie when I was like 3...she got out of the yard and hit by a car.
Our rotties...Brock and Abigail were both posioned on the same day and they died just days apart from each other. Zelda died of infection. Bubba and Gus died of old age. And Ginger died of posioning.
We had a doberman, Cola, he also died of old age. We found him on the side of the road when he was like 9 years old. Every morning he would go swimming in the pool.
Rachel Ann, boston terrier, she got caught in a fence and hung herself. Rudy, boston terrier, got ran over while he was trying to follow me to school. I had no idea he was even out of the yard. And Rocky, boston terrier, died of old age.
Cledus, Boxer, got ran over.
Now to other animals. I won't go into cats because we had so many living in the country.
Racey was a horse and she died of complications of having a baby. It was awful because she prolapsed(sp)
Well as I said in my other post that lost Roxy (car accident) and Gypsy (tumor). But there was one before that.
4 yrs ago we had a puppy named Lucky. Lucky was a chow/Lab mix. We had gotten him from a flea market. No when did not buy him. What we believed happened was that soemone was trying to sell him but couldn't for whatever reason. And they just left him in the back of a snack shack to defend for himself. When we got to the market he was in a small cage that the workers put him in with a sign said free. Well I and my hubby could not and would not leave him there. SO we got him took him home and loved him to pieces. But before we could get him in for shots...We lost him to parvo. He was so small that by the time he showed symptoms it was too late and we lost him.
When I was 8, my dad bought me a Golden Retriever. Right from 8 weeks, he had seizures and was diagnosed with Epilepsy. He died 5 years later from complications from that. He was the first, (and the best), dog I have ever owned. I feel bad, but I don't think any dog will ever hold a candle to him.
I also had a Hamster when I was around that age that died of old age.
When I was 12, my dad got me a ferret. That ferret lived 11 years I kid you not. I have never heard of a ferret living that long. He developed tumors, so I'm not sure if he died of those or of old age. He died not long after we found the tumors, and before we could do anything about them.
A few years ago, before I knew about petshops, we purchased a Boston Terrier that turned out to have mitral valve problems. It was really severe. He wasn't expected to live past a year. It was stated in the contract that if a dog had a congenital defect, that it was the petshops choice of either getting the dog back and giving store credit, or paying the vet bills. They chose to get the puppy back (probably so they wouln't have to pay expensive vet bills), so we really couldn't fight it because it was in the contract. I don't know what ended up happening to him They wouldn't give us our money back, only store credit, so we purchased a Bloodhound which ended up having parvo. He did have to be put to sleep. At that point the petshop finally gave us our money back. So if I'm ever super bitter towards petshops, that's why
