i HATE driving ..i started my lessons a couple of months ago and still dont like it. its mainly due to the stupid crappy Mercedes A~Class im learning in. It feels like the steering wheels gonna come of in my hand and roll on the corners.
I have had quite a few lessons and ive got 2 hours lesson today at 1.30pm (which costs £44) and every single time i get sooo nervous and jittery i would have thought i would got used to it by now.
Its not that im rubbish at it either..i have picked it up straight away and progressing well.. but its the other crazy nutters who i share the road with that gets me jittery. I was doing 30mph in a 30mph zone and people come scorching past me doing about 70mph. Its really off-putting when you look in the rear view mirror and their sitting on your bumper.
Well the only good new is, is that i am now on Michaels insurance so i can drive the car (for free on a learners licence) aslong as i accompanied by him and continue my lessons withe the instructor. Great news for me as i feel very relaxed in that car and its alot easier to handle and its free driving expereince.
Just venting and had to share whats going over and over in my head lol
My father[Lt.Det. Cmdr.w/ Sheriff's Dept.] taught me to drive. He told me to ignore the driver behind me, to follow the rules, and to be sensible. Cops hereabouts will often scoot to your rear-end, just to get you a ticket for speeding up out of their way.
My father taught me how to drive in the hay fields. I rememebr throwing a few workers off the back of the truck because of my bad braking, but I was just 12 at the time.
And when I went in to get my liscense I had to do the driving test with a highway patrol in the car with me. I was so nervous but he was real cool about it. Plus he was a hottie and we went on several dates after that. LOL!!!!
Yeah I think its nerves cause deep down you know its the wrong side of the road. LOL I admit you must watch those strange people behind you, if they don't realize you are going slower than them it could be bad. Woooooo, memorie flash I had. There are many a times when you have to be the aggressor when on the road, or there can be accidents. I hate driving in little packs of cars. I always get away from them. So many headcases out there with phones stuck to their heads.
You will do fine, you're not in L.A. home of the driving lunitics.
you will get the hang of it. it takes time and experience to be able to feel comfortable behind the wheel. i am 49 years old and still dont like driving. i have never had a ticket or wreck ( knock on wood ) but i dont like driving at all .period. and i wouldnt even attempt any driving in L.A. puttin. lol
I'm sooooo used to it. When people come here from other places, that is the one major thing that they complain about. But with me since this is what I see everyday its normal. LOL
I love driving. I think I drive a total of 3 hours straight a day. My dad also loves to drive. He is a truck driver and he drives a lot. Just a few weeks ago he went to California from Texas and he was back in 4 days.
well i got back not long ago..and it went ok..im fine with reverse parking, parallell parking and hill starts etc..
But something happened to put me in a very bad mood~
i was approaching a 4 way crossing with traffic lights and i was slowing up as the light were on green as i approached and i didnt know if they were gonna go to red (as i dont know how long they had been on green for)
well i was going about 15/20mph and the driving instructor told me to put my foot down and get through the lights quick before they changed so i went up to 30mph (as its a 30 zone i couldnt go any faster) the lights hit red as i was only a metre from the stop line. he told me to hit the breaks but i had someone driving up my ass and they would have defiantely hit the back off me so i jumped the light just as it changed..he then shouted at me as i could have caused an accident so i yelled back and told him there was a f***ing car up my ass and that would have caused an accident and if he wasn't an idiot and told me to speed up i wouldn't have had to jump the bloody lights
You see that is what I mean. You have to watch your rear just as much as the front. What did he say when he realized it had to be done?
the instructor said nothing..i think he could tell i was alittle rattled by the whole thing. It made me angry though because i had to make the decision in a split second and i think i was damned either way..if i had of breaked i would off has someone crash into the rear of me for definate so i had to keep going to take me chances lol
OK, Twink. To go back on what my dad said... The mistake you made was in listening to your passenger. Sure, it was screwed that he gave you bad advice. Next time go with your instincts. REMEMBER YOU ARE THE DRIVER, not the bozo in the next seat. Focus on the road. Relax. Use your periferal vision and take in all around you. Make the whole thing routine. The other problem with jumping the light is someone may be COUNTING on you not doing it. You were good that time. But use your own council. Drive less timidly as you get better at it. Practise, practise. Be alert, sober, and polite. Oh, and watch out for people that are not as bright as you. Give them the right of way, even though they are not legally entitled to it. Just let the loonies have the path if it gets to be a contest. Watch for pedestrians, small stupid pets and children. You will do well.
am i the only one who just hopped in a car and started driving?? lol, i learned to drive stick when my friends dad handed me the keys to his truck to run an errand for him, and i tried my best, but stalled a few times in the parking lot, but had the hang of it in just a couple of miles. now i love to drive stick.
that leads me to a question............does anyone else use the gas or the brakes to make their pooch sit down while driving? or is it just me? lmao
well i just went out for my first drive in our car, i stuck on the L plates and away we went. I was really nervous at the thought of having michael in the car with me but it went well.
I can drive a huge tractor easy but the car is taking time lol.
regarding dogs in cars: its law here to have you dog in a seat belt contraption made epecially for dogs or in the boot with a grill on so they cant jump around the car as they are are a distraction to the driver and can cause accidents and also if you crash they can go through the window screen and can give you fatal injuries on the way.
When we went to get Harvey one we had to take him with us (to make sure we got the correct size) and it was a nightmare with him flopping around and poking himself through the space in-between the front seats..it was a huge distraction
