Maxx, my MIL's schnauzer was 15 years old, she had to put him to sleep this morning. He has been thru alot in the past year, we thought we were going to loose him about 6 months ago, but went to the vets and talked to him. Vet thought we helped to bring him back. His momma was on vacation. She knew nothing till she returned. After a few bad seizures, and some other ongoing health issues, vet said it was best to end it this way as MIL did not want to chance him being at home having a bad seizure all by himself. So he's gone nowww. I will be fine. My MIL is now all alone in her house. I want for her to get another dog in time. I don't want her all alone in that house.
As the day goes on. I am just feeling dowwwwnnnnnn. Over all sad feeling.
I help at the rescue, so maybe down the road I will run into a someone special that will call out her name.
that is so hard. we had to put our peke down about three years ago . she was 13 years old. it was the hardest thing we had to do. you never forget them. talk to her in a few weeks and see how she would feel about getting another dog. maybe you could even help her find one .
Yeah, with as many problems Maxx had over the years, she may be more interested in a mix next time. There was a time when she said no more but a few months ago, I was kidding around saying I saw the perfect dog for her, she said she was not ready YET. So we shall see.
How sad. I think its a good idea to wait to get another dog. My moms Boxer, Cledus, was ran over and within a month she got another Boxer. She just isn't attached to Baxter. I think its because she expects him to act like Cledus.
Losing a pet is never easy. I feel for your mom, I really do. I hope she is blessed with many pics and memories of Maxx to keep her going, and you are right....some day....a little face will come into your shelter and you'll know thats the one.
Maxx's departure will open up the chance of another unwanted pup getting a wonderful home......thats the silver lining in the cloud.
well said, ansy. i feel for ur mom too. ive had several dogs, and they all have a special place in my heart. im convinced that maxx will be sitting beside the lord waiting for u when u get to heaven. :)
Thanks, after reading all this I feel sad again. Thought I'd feel better this a.m. My husband told me his mom broke down crying on the phone with him. She tried to be a rock when I skoke to her. I told her she did the right thing about not waiting till he was overtaken with a bad seizure and possibly die in pain. She had him put down when he had his wits about him, but his body was just sore worn and done. Hubby said to me, did she tell you he was feeling better. I told him what I thought and what his mom and the vet said. Had they waitied, MIL could have stepped out for errands or whatnot and Maxx could have had a bad one and died all by himself. Poor boy. She was a very good dog owner. That dog had the bet of vet care, cared for by a schnauzer fanatic too I might add. She said that by the records of So. Calif. Maxx was the oldest schnauzer to record. That says alot. He actually would have been 16 in Oct.
MIL has pictures, many schnauzer figurines. LOL At xmas time he always knew which stocking was his and he would go wait by it. He was a sweetie.
I'm so sorry to hear that I know how you feel its always really hard to that to a dog even though you know its the right thing to do so they dog doesn't suffer.
I'm sorry about your MIL's doggie Puttin It's really hard to lose a dog. One thing though is that 15 years is a really full life. I bet your MIL will have a lot of very fond memories.
