How much does your vet charge...

I was wondering how much your guys' vet charges for things. Like next week I have Beeper and Bacon scheduled to be neutered. My vet charges $145 each to neuter and then she charges $45 for the PAP blood work. Also while they are there the vet wants to get x-rays of Beeper because he makes a clicking noise when he walks and she said she cant feel anything so she wants to have films. She charges 75 for the first film and 65 for each additional. Beeper also has clogged tear ducts so she needs to clean them out and that is an additional $20. So for Beeper its going to be about $300. Now Bacon is just the standard blood work and neuter $190. We were going to get his dewclaw removed also and that was $100 plus $10 for bandages but we decided against that because of all the other money we are going to have to spend. My b/f wants me to call some other vets in our area to see if they are cheaper and take the dogs to the cheapest but I am nervous about that. I dont feel comfortable having a complete stranger perform surgery on them. Enought rambling I was just kind of curious about how much some of your vets charge for these services.

When my Lab was neutered it cost 90 dollars....and he weighed about 85 pounds. We dropped him off in the morning and picked him up in the evening. Oscar getting fixed cost 125 and he weighed 150 pounds...we took him to a different vet.

I was thinking that they may charge more because the dog is smaller because on the printed estimate is said neuter (0-20lbs). I dont know I thought that the price was a little high. I guess I should question my vet. Thanks for the response Paige! :)

There is a lot of variation in price.
If you can find a vet that does not tack all those extra charges on, you will be in better shape.
You also don't want him to be some students' lab rat, so insist on which vet will do the operation, and go to a place that has good reputation.

we have a vet that is only about a 5 minute drive from here. there are three vets there. we have a woman vet. i felt comfortable with her right off. i havent asked about spay/neuter prices on dogs, but for cats its 40 dollars neuter and 80 dollars spay. but they charge 30 dollars for puppy exam and it includes first shots. i think prices vary from state to state too.

I had one dog neutered and it killed him, so the vet wiped out everything.  he admited to not properly clamping something off and he bled to death internaly all night.

the other priced sound about right.

wow tuna. that is sad. so what he offered to wipe out everything, he should. but that still doesnt compensate for the loss of your pet by neglect.

We have two female dogs.  Before we got Tiki we had Lola, in Georgia we needed to get her spayed.  Only problem...$200 plus dollars just for the spay!   I didn't ask what else I would have to pay for.  I looked for a low cost spay/neuter program and we did it that way.  Get up her to Maryland...Have Tiki....need to get her spayed here in about 2 months or so.   Guess how much...$200.  Looked into low cost programs again, they just changed their program from the humane society and now I dont think we're eligable to qualify!  We have to submit w-2s or tax documents from LAST year stating we make under x amount of money.  For two people its like 19,000   That's no good because Nathan was in Korea last year and got his bonus for enlisting, which they paid TWICE and we're paying back now, and I was working.  This year so far I haven't worked (except for a bit in Jan and Feb) and Nathan isn't getting all this extra pay from being overseas and seperated from his spouse and all the other fun pay that comes with it!   I may have to go to the humane society and "Clarify" some information for them if you know what I mean :)

I called around to some of my friends' vets and one was $105 to neuter.  I am thinking about taking Bacon there to be neutered but I am nervous about taking Bacon there because he is older.  I am just nervous to take them somewhere other than their vet but I just cant afford how much my vet is charging for two dogs.  Thank you every one for your input.  I really apprieciate it. ;)

Usually smaller is less.  Lilly was $90 for the spay and I think $45 for the bloodwork. If your dog has recently had bloodwork, you can go by that. Your vet sounds about what mine is and I thought it was cheap.  I thought it was going to be alot more.
