Well, as you all know, I have started broadcasting my webcam on the internet 24/7... Mind you , it's in the family friendly section and crazy stuff is not going on there. I think it's fun to have the living room on cam for anyone to peek in on. However...
I use the same name there as on yahoo-- shinyblackpit-- and suddenly there are people (5 so far) yahooing me asking "you're on webcamplanet, right?" or "I saw your webcam and I find you to be very beautiful." Though I am flattered that someone finds me beautiful, this creeps me out and the reason it does is that someone had to view my cam and then google my screen name to find out that they could talk to me via yahoo. I deliberately didn't provide any contact info on the webcamplanet site. And anything going on in my living room I would think wouldn't convince a stranger to take the time to seek out my contact info....
I enjoy the cam, but from that screen name, people can trace me to every forum I have ever posted on plus my yahoo instant messenger name. I guess I will have to change the name. I may be being paranoid, but just giving you all a heads up... anyone can google your name and get anything that you have posted in that name. So never post specifics about where you live, or your full name. I don't think I have posted those things, have always been careful about that, but I will be changing my webcam screen name because I don't necessarily want to chat with all the people that might view the cam.
that is kind of creepy. i dont have a webcam. i gave it to my niece. when i did have it, i never really used it. i would feel creepy having people i dont know, watching me or my family. it would be cool to have it for long distance family members. you could see them while youre talking. when my nephew was stationed in virginia, him and my brothers family would correspond via webcam. they got to see their little granddaughter as they talked. thats the only way i would use it.
I've googled myself before and it's funny, because it brings up a lot of parenting sites since people use 'huntersmom' meaning they are the parent to a boy named Hunter, lol.
I would not even know how to install a webcam, but I don't think I ever would. I think I would feel uncomfortable with strangers being able to see in my house. This sounds so paranoid and lame, but there was actually a thing on our news once about people selling their home and having one of those 'virtual tours' things on the realtor websites. It said it was dangerous, because it lists their address since the home is for sale, and basically people would get on the internet and search these homes and see what people had inside, and then rob them.
I guess it would be kind of neat to have a webcam just to talk to my hubby's folks. They live in another state and don't get to see the kiddos much, so that would be neat. But that would probably be the only time I would use it.

I finally googled myself and the only things that came up were a post that I did a really long time ago on TP and an ad that I placed on TP. Thats about it. Did ya'll just do ya'lls name on ya'lls e-mails?
I turned it off last night, still getting tons of yahoo requests from total strangers. I might wait a while and then do it again but with a totally different name than I have ever used on anything before.
Yes, Ivy, I agree. I enjoyed that people could watch but since there is an option at the webcam site (it shows right by your cam) to list contact info, and I didn't list any contact info, I found it to be overstepping and just kind of a violation for anyone to go and do a search for shinyblackpit on Yahoo. Had I wanted them to know that, I'd have shared it!
that is creepy to think that anyone can get information on you like that. i get on my 16 year old about who she talks to on the net, but i guess you dont even have to say anything and they can still find you. sccaaarrrrryyyyyy
