Friend's dog died

My friend had an 8 year old sheltie. They put him under to have his teeth cleaned and he never woke up! I know this is rare, but it just does not seem worth the risk!!!

What do you think?

Wow, that is awful. I would never put Oscar under unless it was a emergancy. Plus Oscars teeth are perfectly clean from the bones I give him.

How sad.  That is what I worry about too. I've had mine cleaned only when they were to have something else done too. Very scarey. Sorry about your friend.

I agree, I don't think it is worth the risk.
Mine keep pretty good teeth, they get marrow bones and rawhide, occasionally.
If I see tarter, I use the back end of my finger nail file, a dull flat rounded metal end, and start at the crown and flake it down and off.
Where you been, Jaw? Haven't heard much from you.

I agree... not worth the risk.

KM, I have gone back to work, so I have been sooo busy. Not much time for the computer. However, I hope to have more time soon and on the weekends!

Hope everyone is doing well!

I have been putting in extra hours at work, too.
Gotta pay bills.
Everything's fine here. It is hot and humid, but I guess I will survive.

Nope not worth the risk… I would not use Anesthesia unless absolutely necessary..

thats so sad !  i wouldnt have my dogs put under unless it was a real emergency. french bulldogs have to go through a big ordeal when put under because they are a brachycephalic breed . it is more dangerous for them. sorry about your friends dog. that is heartbreaking.

Thats awfull jawlaw ... that must have been a real shocking an dupsetting to your friend

I wouldn't put harvey under anaesthetic unless it was an operation obviously. I brush Harveys teeth and he has raw bones etc to chew on and he is fine with me messing around with his mouth.

It seems to me that being on dog forums, people put undue pressure on us. hen we start thinking, Am I doing something wrong?  I have only had Sasha's done when she had a growth removed. I scale them too, myself. Its shocking I can get into sasha's mouth at all.
