Koda and Kaia are destroying our yard. We cannot make them a pit right now. I have tried the whole putting poop in their holes but then they just dig somwhere else. I am at a loss of what else to do. When I am at home I can watch and sometimes I can catch them in the act but they are just in the backyard alot when I am gone too. They have plenty of shade and always have water, I usually have the sprinkler on too. I don't know why they are digging, they have a gazillion toys and we play with them all the time. They are digging VERY big wholes, some up to 2-3 feet across and about a foot deep. They can do this in 15 minutes. THey are big dogs and very powerful. I could lock them up when we are not out there but that is not really solving my problem, I really want to know how to get them to actually stop digging. Any ideas? I have to wait until next year before I can make them a digging pit. (House issues) Any ideas that will help me this year? lol Thanks!
the only way i would guess in your situation is to maybe correct their behaviour. Harvey is really stimulated and played with but he seems to dig just because he likes it.. I tried putting the poop in the hole aswell and Harvey just digs another ankle twisting hole some where else sorry my answers not much use lol
So dogs are just diggers. I heard of this spray called no dig. I have never used it so I don't know if it works. If they are digging a hole and then laying in then they probably just like how cool it is inside the hole.
Yup. Digging is fun. Dogs instinctively are den animals, so the urge to build a den to lay in is strong with some breeds. With prospective puppy buyers, I tell them that Labs don't just dig, they excavate Only way I know to curtail it is to make concrete dog runs. I gave mine a 10 dollar plastic kiddie pool, liberally coated with bitter apple paste on the outside, they seem to be digging more in the swimming pool than the yard, now. Possibility is to make a shed, put the pool inside[the pool gets algae real fast w/o shade]and hope that being in the damp shed is better than a dirt hole.
