Ready to pull my hair out!!

Or kill Chopper!!! He just WILL NOT STOP jumping up and down on the door when he wants to come in!! You could tell it was a newer door when we got the house and now it looks like crap because he keeps jumping up and down and up and down and up and down on it. It's all scratched up and he's torn up the weather stripping on it and it just looks like sh*t!! Not to mention the fact that when he does it, it's SOOOOOO annoying!!! We've even put up a gate and he's figured how to jump over it and he still does it. I don't let him in when he does it because I know that you're not supposed to acknowledge naughty behavior so I ignore him but he WILL NOT QUIT!!! I've left him out there for hours and he never quits!!! I've even put the shock collar on him and he still does it!!! I'm out of ideas!! Someone help me please, I'm at my wit's end!!!!!!!!

I have no idea Mollie.  I do feel for you.  I'm having the same problem with Zoe with my screen.  I have ordered a screen guard for my screen so hopefully that will be taken care of soon.  If I come up with any ideas I'll let you know.

I'm sorry Mollie! That would annoy me too

Have you tried kicking the door and saying "NO!" in a really loud voice? I don't know if this helps with bigger dogs, but Ella would do the same thing because she is wussy and HATES being put outside, and I would kick the bottom of the door while she was doing it and say no, and it would scare her and she would back away. Course, I guess it would depend on what kind of door you have. My back door is just a typical screen door, so when I kick it, it makes a lot of noise and even rattles a bit, and that scares her. I would literally stand there and wait for her to come back to the door and immediately kick it again when she put her paws on it. This might not even phase a bigger dog though. Ella is only 5 pounds, lol. Or you could put a bunch of pennies in a tin can and when he starts to do it, promptly open the door a tad and shake the pennies in his face and say no in a really angry voice.

Trinity use to do that so we put a ledge across our door so it looks like a french style door that both the bottom and the top open sperately. It doesn't actually open like that but after and 2 times of trinity jumping up and hitting her head she stopped jumping up. Now she just stands at the window and bark. LOL

maybe you could retrain him? Take him out to do his businesse on a leash bring him back in but before you go threw the door make him sit and stay for a minute, then let him in. Maybe he will start to realize he gets let in when he sits nicely and waits?

We make them all sit and wait to go outside and to come inside. I don't let him in the house though, when I know he's been jumping at the door. I have tried kicking the door and yelling "NO" at him and he goes back over the gate, but he always just jumps right back over a minute after I leave. I'm at a loss here!! He's only 23lbs and he's a rat terrier, so he jumps up like 4 1/2 feet in the air too, so you're looking him straight in the eye when he jumps up. I think maybe we'll have to go buy another shock collar and put it on him, as we bought the last one for Lexie and put on the longer shock prongs and they don't work for Chopper, we've tried and we can't find the shorter ones, so maybe we'll try that. Definitely keep the suggestions coming though!! And thanks to those that replied!!

Heff...cattle prod
Thank-god I don't know where to buy one, I would darn sure have use for it around here.

Mollie he is so small, door guards are the way to go.
Most hardware stores have them. I drill and screw them on myself. When the old door is no good, you just save the guards and put them on a new door. I have two reg size guards one on the inside of door, one on the outside, and a smaller one, above the outside one, so they can't go thru, just above the other. On a new door, they don't look 1/2 bad. The wall outside just needs repainting occasionally, they scratch it while they are playing Mine are all about 70 lb. dogs.
