For all who might be interested I fostered the sweetest puppy this summer. Her name is Dora and she has been adopted! This is a pifture of her before we fixed her eyes. She had horrible cherry eye when we found her.
IS she a bloodhound? Coonhound? Whaaaaa my boss was looking for a bloodhound for an employee that wants one. She is going to buy it for him. Sort of as a thank you for being a good emplyee. LOL he gets paid too of course. He's on East coast.
She is a Black and Tan Coonhound. We had her for almost 3 months.
I found her when i was at the vet updating my boy's shots. I asked them if they ever got any puppies abandoned because my friend was looking for a medium sized puppy to get for his sister. They said all they had was a B&T that was found as a stray. They told me that she would need surgery because of the cherry eye.
They are not a licenced shelter so they cannot keep dogs more than 7 days. Most of the strays they get if not claimed within the 7 days are put to sleep. I gave them my number and told them to call me if she wasn't claimed and i would ask around and see if anyone wanted her. No one did, and the call came that they were going to have to put her to sleep. The vet tech i talked to said that she was the sweetest thing and hoped that i could take her...but the surgery with the sapy and shots included would cost around $600. Completely upset and almost in tears i told her that there was no way that i could afford to pay that kind of money. They called me back 10 min later and told me that they had all been talking about it and they didn't want to put her to sleep. They asked if i could take her if they did the surgery for $300. And so that is how we got her. They had been damaged for so long that she ended up needing a second surgery....which they did for $20...the cost of the medication.
I am friend with our local humane society and my husband and i volunteer whenever we can. So every saturday we sat with the pup that we named Dora and i picked through adoption applications and talked to people about her. I turned down 5 people....i was VERY paticular. Then the saturday came that a man walked in and said "I need that dog, she was meant for me and my family." Taken back i was sure that i was going to turn him down. Then he proceded to tell me about his last dog. A great dane that he got at 8 weeks in Guatamala. Then when she was 5 they moved from El Salvador to Utah, and took her with them. The great dane then lived in utah for another 6 years and died last year at 11! I was so impressed that i started to cry! His two daughters we cuddling with dora in her crate and Dora was so comfortable with them that i knew they were the right family for her.
I called them a week later and talked to the wife. She sounded sooo happy on the phone. Said they took her in to the vet the following monday to check on her eyes, and the vet ended up doing a 3rd surgery for FREE! And that Dora was already such a part of their family. That she never left her daughters sides if she had her way. That she slept with her daughters at night.
what a cutie pie. we had a redbone hound pup that showed up on our doorstep. no one ever claimed him. he went out to live on my cousins farm. along with a bloodhound that i rescued from abuse. i loved to hear him bay. reminded me of the movie where the red fern grows. glad that she has found a home !
