Do you sell on Ebay?

I have only bought 4 things on ebay, but I just listed something to sell to try and raise money for Holly!  I put a reserve as well as a starting bid.  I don't know if it will sell, but I know a junkyard that will take this heap, but charge me for a tow.  Anyways, I believe it only cost me about 10 bucks to list.  Is there any other hidden charges, or just charges period that maybe I didnt notice as I signed up?  I dont like reading huge pages of stuff, so I just kinda skimmed it and it seemed pretty cheap!  And your first photo free as well.  It is listed for 7 days.  Anyone sell anything before?

The charges you may not know about is you have to pay a percentage of your final winning bid and also if they pay you by paypal , paypal charges you a percent too. If you are accepting check or money order, no worries. Paypal is faster but charges fees.

What if a local person came here and gave me cash or a check?

Thats fine too, no charges. But you still have to pay ebay fees for the final bid.

I guess I will see what happens then!  Thanks for your help!  I think I understand it, I hope I don't regret it though.

O.k thanks, Im sure it will be fine.  I was just a little nervous, since it was my first thing I have tried to sell.

I have been a buyer and seller. They are correct on charges. Even though Paypal charges, I love it. It is fast and easy. Buyers are less likely to back and not pay you. However, if your profit margin is not very big, it is just another expense.

Did you list in your description of why you have the item or items for sale? I have seen that before and then possibly, they might bid more since they know it is for a good cause. You could even put your animals picture there. I don't think that is against the rules.

Good luck

i agree with jawlaw. put a pic of holly up too and a small explanation of why you are selling .thats it for her.i saw a little girl with her dog on ebay. she was selling her hand painted pics to raise money for her dogs surgery. people where bidding like crazy too ! they were just a small girls artwork, but it was the thought and the reason behind it that made people want to bid and helpout.

If your item does not sell they charge you $45. At least this is what they did to me and my room mates.

pd, we have sold several items on ebay. quinn used to buy and sell sports cards on a regular basis. we have never been charged a 45 dollar fee for unsold items. the fee is small. around 25-50 cents. we always just relisted them they sold the second time around. if you or your moms roommates were charged a 45 dollar fee for an unsold item, i would contact ebay....there is about 44 dollars and some change you have coming back too you.

Thats what I'm thinking dusty! I even ended an item early because i found someone local to buy and and was charged nothing. I've had things not sell and not get charged anything but the initial .30 listing fee.

No you don't get charged money if your item doesn't sell. Your friend obviously had a screw up or something.

Actually, if your item doesn't sell, the relist is free.  I buy and sell all the time.  I think my largest total fee for selling an item with ebay and paypal was 11.00.

yeah the relist fee, only if you relist it though. I just sold 6 things today and 2 other things that didn't sell and no fees for the ones not sold. I sell clothes, but i am looking into other stuff too.

i sell loads in ebay and i love it. the fees vary for each item depending on how high your starting bids is, how many photos you have and if you choose to have your item highlighted etc. I usually get my stuff from charity shops, car-boot sales and yard sales and i always make a profit..once you get the hang of listing properly that you can make a tidy amount

I got one prosprective buyer asking questions, I told him if he wanted to see it, he could get a hold of me to set up a time, but havent heard back.  And of course I answered his questions, and I also posted them on the listing because he had some good questions, about important things I left out!  So if nothing else I guess this will be a learning experience.  And thanks for all the advise!!  I also told the guy I would accept less if it dosnt sell, so I hope he will get back to me!

I add a note on mine saying payment id due within 7 days of auction close.  I have had a couple people skip out on paying me so i never ship an item until i have the $ first.
