Katrina is coming right at me

Katrina is currently forecasted to hit New Orleans or very close to the city.  Even if the storm turns, the city is supposed to take a hard hit.  I'm still trying to figure out whether or not to evacuate.  If I do, I'll probably be able to check in from my mom's computer, but if I stay, I may be without power for some time.  The storm is expected to come in at a strong 4, which would cause massive damage.  If I didn't work at a kennel, I would be so outta here.

Wow. I'll take earthquakes, anyday, to that stuff.
Be safe.
Katrina was my first Labrador's name.

Proto becareful..If it looks like a direct or close to a direct hit I would leave. If she is as strong as was predicted it could get bad. Isn't New Orleans pretty far under sea level? At any rate please be careful.

Yes, New Orleans is under sea level.  The kennel, where I live as well as work, is at one of the highest points in the city and is within the protection of the levy system.  Unfortunately, the levy wasn't built with this level of storm in mind.

I'm in the process of packing now.  I gained 10 or 15 pounds over the spring/summer because I didn't exercise and ate a boatload of junk.  I wasn't worried about it because pants season is still some time away, and I tend to lose weight easily.  Well, now I have to try on every pair of jeans before I pack them because half of them don't fit.  Ugh.

The news is saying we may be without power for 4 to 6 weeks.  This city is third world enough on a good day.  Also, the news is talking about roof failure.  Doesn't that sound fun?  The kennel is a concrete bunker, but I don't have faith in the roof.

I have a full tank of gas and plenty of cash on hand.

Proto I just got this off a news site from your neck of the woods...
http://www.wwltv.com/

Mandatory: St. Tammany Parish south of I-12, St. Charles Parish, Lafourche Parish south of Leon Theriot floodgates, Plaquemines Phase I, Barataria, Lafitte and Crown Point in Jefferson Parish.

Voluntary: Jefferson Parish, low-lying St. Bernard Parish, low-lying Terrebonne Parish, Grand Isle, Lafourche Parish north of Leon Theriot floodgates, Algiers in New Orleans, Lower Ninth Ward and low-lying areas of New Orleans.

Mayor Nagin strongly recommends voluntary evacuation of Orleans Parish

I just got word via the weather channel they expect Katrina to be a Cat. 4 before landfall...The say Cat4 before Mon. Please be careful...

As soon as I go to Noaa I will post some Satalitie pictures.

Oh Proto, be careful.  I am so glad we don't have anything here but flooding every once in a while.  Actually, it has never flooded bad where we are in the three years we have been here.

i would make sure that the kennel animals have plenty of food and water to last them for a few days. is there people that would be willing to take them in until the storm passes? i think you would be safer to go to your moms. dont take any chances. put yourself and family in a safe place until it passes. i will keep everyone in my prayers . be safe..........
