What should I do?

Everytime I am at work I go in the back where the kennels are and for the last 3 weeks I have seen this dog named June in her kennel and everytime i see her I think she is dead and have to check and make sure she is breathing. She looks aweful, extremly thin, always sleeping, patches of fur missing, and on her botton half her hair looks almost shaved. Everytime I see this poor girl I feel so sad for her. She is also and older dog, her appearence could be making her look older but since she is a stray we dont know.

I found out yesterday that June was brought in as a stray, and two of the girls working there at the time, didnt want to take June to the pound cause they would have surely put her to sleep. So they rescued her by putting her in our kennels and keeping her there until we figure out what will happen with her. However kennel life is making her worse i believe, she isnt eating enough and looks miserable.

We work closly with this woman who does cat rescue. She has been taking June out to potty when she comes and said she wants to foster her and nurse her back to health but she cant until a dog she is currently doggy sitting leaves, which is in a couple days or so.

I mentioned I could potentially take June and keep her in my screened in patio, and feed her better food and hopefully put some weight on her. Since she has patches of fur missing I had them do a skin scrapping on her to see if she has mange. If she does have mange I will not bring her home. When the doctor saw her yesterday he said this dog needs to be put to sleep to end her suffering. And a part of me agrees, because this dogs looks like it wants to die. I have no say in whether they put her down or not and i think no matter what the doctor says this cat rescue lady still wants to help and try and save her.

So if the skin scrapping comes back negative, should I keep this old mangy sweet dog until the cat rescue lady can take her? I'd love to help June out, but i have also never done anything like this before. What would you guys do?

i would take the dog in until the lady can take her. she could just be severely depressed. a good diet, a good clean-up and a lot of love may be all she needs to snap out of it. if shes not in pain, why would anyone suggest she be put down. i would think that a vet would try to save a life rather than take one. at least not without first making the effort.

I agree with dusty. It might help the dog to be more around people as well. Until the cat lady can take her you can give her some TLC.
