My brother lives in bad area. As of today he is getting out, no matter what. He came home yesterday to his apartment being ransacked. They stole whatever was worth anything. His computer that he recently bought. He got home and one of the intruders was still there. My brother was lucky he did not have or use a weapon on him. Intruder jumped out a window to escape. They totally trashed everything. My SIL is usually the one that gets home first. This is just soooo upsetting for them, they even broke open my baby nephews piggy bank and went thru his things. My brother works for one of the companys like brinks I think, They go store to store collecting the money to bring to the bank. I think they thought he had money somewheres. Cops said they basically were telling my brother and his family to get out of the neighborhood while you can. This is just sooo sick and sad. I have wanted them to get out a year ago. Its sad that this had to be what made them do it. But they have their lives at least. There are alot of great citys in L.A., Downtown projects is not one of them. Reason why he was there in the first place was because he married a gal with 4 kids already. Finding a place that would house them and his new baby will probably be at least $1000 per month, so the $400 a month they paid where they were was good. Not anymore. Wish them luck, they have had to move into two separate homes till they save enough. SIL at her uncles and brother at my other sisters.
They are packing everything up, putting their belongings in storage and SIL and the kids are going to her uncles and brother to my sisters till they save enough to get a new place. It is just sooo expensive in California. I have even hinted to my hubby I want to move away.
I love the area I am in and was born and raised in this town. But I will never be able to afford a home of my own. Not with $4 and 5 hundred thousand dollar prices. Then monthly I'd have to pay $2000 to $3000 per month towards the loan. It is just crazy.
i was born in los angeles. i think it has changed alot since then. my grandkids are there and although erica said they live in a better neighborhood now , i still worry about them. kimani is only 7 and he told me they lived in one area that had drive-by shootings. erica wants to stay in cal because all of her family is there and i understand. i still worry about my grandkids though. its sad that people work hard for what they have, and some loser comes along and strips it all away in a few short hours. i hope they find a place they can afford and the thieves are caught and their belongings are returned.
The feeling you have after something like that is just sick. I remember my house beng robbed when I was a teenager. We were in Florida. It was mainly my room they went through, but took things throughout the house, I wouldn't sleep in my room for over a month. We were sure it was teenagers, probably knew my me or my brother. Still it was such a horrible feeling.
I wish them well. I hope they can get back on their feet quickly. More sad news amongst the craziness already going on. Sad.
Dusty what part of L.A. is Erica from? Yeah, being robbed leaves you with such a sick sick feeling in the pit of your stomach. It happened to me, and it got me down for awhile. I did not want to leave my apartment at all.
i dont know if the spelling is right buts she lives in vellejo . she said it was real rough where she lived before, but now she lives more up in the hills and its a better neighborhood. and she called yesterday and wanted me to talk to baby jaymes. she said he kept waking up all night crying for his gramma. i might just have to take a little vacation.....i love the train anyway.....
I'm so sorry to hear what your brother & his family are going through! As you said, he is very lucky he wasn't injured! It must be so hard for them to be separated - I hope they are able to find their own place soon!
Gosh Puttin that is just so sad. I hope he doesn't lose faith in people do to a couple of losers that did this to him. I know what you mean about California since I own a Mortgage Company. It's tough. I know lots of people who got the heck out of here. I say if the weather doesn't bother you elsewhere, do what's best for your family.
My brother is a pretty easy going guy, sort of the life of the party type person. He had just recently got married too. I will be keeping my eye open for something rentable for them.
Dusty, Is it Mission Viego where they live, if its how you spelt it, I don't think I have ever heard of that city. Is it inland? Bet it made you feel good to your grandkids love you so much. Not that they were crying for you though.
I'm sorry for your brother and his wife Puttin, that's aweful! I couldn't imagine. I hope they just took things of monetary value and not sentimental. I think that would be the hardest thing for me. Course, the only sentimental thing I have is a piano from the 1800's that has been in my family for like 6 generations. I doubt a thief could lug that out, lol.
Ya'll could move to Colorado. We have a lot of California residents here. The ones I talk to say it's because our climate is just like yours, but our house prices are cheaper. And the drivers are insane here, so you wouldn't have to adjust to that! lol

hunternell, before i met quinn, i had considered moving to colorado.my brother was stationed at fort carson and he said it was really pretty there. my favorite aunt and uncle live there. they have tried to talk me into moving there. i am thinking about going next year for a visit. they live in canon city. they had a big wildfire a couple of years back and he sent me pics of it that he had takin from his back porch.i decided that wasnt a good time to go there. lol .but i would like to take a couple weeks and go for a visit.
Dusty, that's cool! I've been to Canon City. My best friend's grandfather lives there. And we go to the Royal Gorge a lot, which isn't too far from there. Freaky bridge...very pretty view though! Lol
Colorado is neat in that it is VERY beautiful. And it sort of has it all. If you want concerts, museums, zoos (the Denver Zoo is AWESOME), amusement parks, malls, stadiums, etc. it's all there. But if you want the peace and quiet of the country, it's only about a 45 minute drive. My big gripe with Colorado is the driving of course, and also that it seems like the developers control our state. It is just being so over-developed. I'm scared that by the time my kids are grown, there won't be any wilderness left. And they charge for EVERYTHING. We went to the mountains about a month ago and were letting the kids play by a river and this guy comes up to us demanding the 'daily use fee of 4 bucks'. We were like, "You have got to be kidding! For playing by a river?
We do have a lot of wildfires here, but luckily, not too many this year. A few years ago we were going through a really bad drought. But really, unless you are actually going to live in the mountains, they aren't a big deal. If you live in the metro Denver area (or even outside like we do) you don't get affected by them.
