My animals are all up-to-date, but is it really necessary to get vaccinations for everything, every year? As much as I love my vet and the other vet at the office, they think it's necessary every year, I think it's a money thing, I know doing it too much can bring on the disease you are trying to prevent. The last shot I had was tetanus in 2001, I never need another shot again so why should animals?
Especially for my cat since she is indoors only, my last cat had her normal vaccines in 1991 and after that, we never got rabies or anything. She died in May at 13 years old. May sound bad, but it wasn't up to me.
I definitely will do rabies, since it's the law. I just don't see a reason for Bordetella again and stuff, I will never board my dogs.
Are there any good websites where I can look at this stuff?
IMO, i believe vacinating good when the dog is young is important because they are more at risk and i have had a couple bad situations but as adults, i don't think it is as important. I vacinate mine every 2 years or so but they rarely leave my home and i don't bring in other dogs so maybe it depends on the situation.
Well, I just vaccinated Koda yesterday myself, but I had to for dog training. Koda is around alot of other dogs and I REALLY do not want to take any chances of him getting sick. IMO, if you can prevent something, wouldn't you feel better spending a bit of money every year then having your dog get extremely sick or worse because you didn't?? I would hate that. I am not willing to take that chance. JMO though.
