My mother came home today and told me she got a raise at work. Also that we most likely won't lose our house because 1 of her friends and her daughter will be moving in with us. She has also told me that she would like to get trinity a play mate because at this point trintiy is very lonely and destroys the house when ever we leave. I asked my mother what kind of dog she would like me to look for and she said a heeler size or smaller. To me thats kind of too small for a play mate for a doberman but who knows. She also wants to get it as a puppy. Another thing she wants me to look for is if I can find one for free. I'm sure about that considering I can jsut go to the pound but hey my mother is the one paying. So what breeds are the size of a heeler or smaller that ya'll think would be a good breed for a playmate for Trinity?
As long as Trinity is well socialized he should be OK with a smaller dog. One guy who comes to obed. school has a beautiful dobie that is now 2 yrs old who is housemates with 3 chi's and 1 corgi and they all get along well & play together. In fact, the funny thing is, one of the chi's is the ruler of the roost!
The only problem I do have is trintiy plays kind of ruff. My mothers dog that she gave away was a heeler so he could take it. My fear is that is I get a dog that is any smaller trinity will hurt it while playing with it.
If you don't mind noise, what about a beagle? They're sturdy little devils. At the kennel, we always put the beagles with the large dogs because they bulldozed over other breeds their size.
Have you considered adopting one of the dogs left homeless by Katrina? Many animals have been abandoned, and some that weren't are being signed over by their owners because they can no longer care for them. Not all of these dogs are adults. There are plenty of puppies now in need of homes.

I've been thinking about a boxer can't do dogs with long hair though because I'm allergic to pet danduree. Yes hunter I read your post and I replyed over there.
Theres a boxer that lives a couple of houses down from me she is beautiful she is brown with a white chest. She is very well trained and I have never heard her bark.
my sisters two boxers had pups. they are a month old and so darn cute. she has seven pups. 5 fawn and 2 brindle. they make wonderful pets and are very playful and sturdy.
dixie is the fawn, she is in the front and shes the mommie. dexter is the brindl daddy in the back. its harder to see his color in that pic. this ones shows the brindling a little better
i am not sure on that one. i will ask my sister . i wouldnt think it would be too bad. i always play with them when i,m over there and never have gotten hair all over me. their hair is just like my frenchies and if they shed, its very little. they are very playful and lovable dogs though. a little on the hyper side, but not too bad. she never had their ears cropped because she didnt want to put them through it. some people do and some dont. they are cute either way.
noooo. hers are of medium build. if your interested in boxers. here is a little more about them. they really are good dogs and would make a great playmate for trinity
A boxer would make a fantastic playmate/housemate..i have met several and they are excellent dogs, They also didnt shed alot..well less than Harvey anyway. Harvey will play with any dog any size because he was very well socialized when he was young~ he plays with a Bermese Mountian dog which is about 3/4 times the size of him and plays with a Jack Russell Terrrier an a staffordshire pitbull terrier and cats etc..aslong as Trinity was socialised well the new dog will be fine~ but just make sure you introduce them properly to one another so they can both ajust
I'm with proto on the beagle. I have 6 dogs. One is almost 150 pds. now and one is 95 pds. Zoe is 13 pds. and could take them on anyday. When she gets on Toby's nerves (150 pds.) he just takes his foot and smacks it on her head and holds her down. Zoe is as sturdy as they come. She doesn't play well with my smaller dogs. She can get to rough with them. At daycare they always put the beagles in with the big dogs (except Zoe for a while but that is another story, now she goes in with the big dogs, no problem). For anyone with a big dog, even one that plays extremely rough, I always recommend a beagle as a playmate. They can dish it out just as well as they can take it. When the 3 of them play together if there is anyone I have to calm down for playing to rough, its Zoe. Zoe also isn't very noisy. When she plays she gets extremely noisy or when someone comes to the door but just normal running around the house, she hardly makes a peep.

If one dog is already a problem, getting two is not the solution. Containment is a better alternative. Two dogs will merely result in twice the destruction
