Yet another 8 month old pit

A female pit that needs a home ASAP!! The owners live in my town, which has a pit bull ban (unfortunately) and they haven't been caught with her *yet* but I know of one cop in particular that's out to get pit bull owners in this town. She's even gone so far as to ask the pet shop owners if they know of any pit owners in town!! She's such a b*tch!! She's just obviously out to get them just because she doesn't like them. This pit in particular happens to live right beside the police chief in town and he obviously hasn't done anything about it so why should she care?? Well, the owner of one pet store said she told the officer she didn't know of any pits in town and she's even got an ad up in her shop for this pit!! lol. So does the owner of the other pet shop. Officer wasn't very observant on that one, thank God!!

But anywho, she's an 8 month old female pit bull. I think she's got light brindle markings on her. She's mainly white and she's got a very petite frame for a pitty. The one pet shop owner told me that she knows the dog and she's just the sweetest dog and she lets her kids go over and play with her. She also knows the owners, who are being forced to either give her up or put her to sleep as they live in a rented space (don't know if it's an apartment or house) rented from his parents, who are making him get rid of the dog. I've already emailed several, SEVERAL rescues and humane societies and such. Already gotten back a couple negative replies. Seems they are all FULL. If anyone knows anyone that can help, please let me know. I know I don't post much anymore but I still do come in here everyday and check up on things.

Have you tried posting her on the PBRC website? When I had Diego as a foster I got great responses from there. Just a thought. I wish I could help more.......

Keep us updated!

Lovin: I'm in Iowa. In the NW corner, right about 10 miles from the Minnesota border.

I didn't try that, Katz. Thanks for the suggestion!!

Yes, I do still need help with her. I don't have a pic of her, as I don't know her and she's not my dog, so I'm not going to put her on the PBRC website, but I did get a response from a rescue that said they need more info about the dog and I'm going to call the owner and see what I can get. I'll let y'all know.

Lovin, did you have any other ideas??

Is she good with dogs, cats, kids etc.  Does she have any issues?  Have you met her yourself?  I know I could get her in, if I can arrange a foster.  Let me know if you can ASAP.  Nevermind, you havent met her yet.  I would suggest calling the owners, and ask them about any issues.  The 2 fosters I know of for Pits, have dogs of there own, so it would be easier to place her in a foster home if she is.  Also find out if she is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and just some general info.  I would love to help her if I can.

Thanks, Lovin. He just called me and told me that she is white with brown patches, weighs 35lbs, was the runt of the litter, and has some food allergies. He said if she doesn't get Dog Chow, she breaks out but all they have to do is give her some Benadryl and she's fine. Don't know about that one. I do know that terriers sometimes have a natural allergy to beef and chicken proteins so maybe that's it?? Or maybe it could be corn, I don't know.

He said that she is pretty good with other dogs, can play rough though. She is good with kids and people of all ages, so that's good.

I just sent a reply to Sanctuary Plus Rescue, up in the Minnesota Twin Cities, so maybe they will take her. I will let you know and keep you updated though. This guy sounds kind of uneducated, but I can tell he's got a good heart; he told me that he doesn't want her to go someplace where they will fight her. And he did try to SELL her, instead of giving her away. I didn't even think to ask him about shots and if she's spayed, etc. Maybe I'll call him later tomorrow.

Good luck then!  Sanctuary has 2 or 3 times the dogs we do so I am sure they are probably pretty full.   But who knows, maybe they will squeeze her in somehow!  Most of them are wary of dogs with no vaccinations, and not spayed or neutered.  You might also try Animal Ark,  they are in Hastings, MN.  I was lucky. The only reason I was able to get Sam {the other 8 month old brindle and white pit!}  in our Rescue, is partially because I fostered for them in the past, as well as getting my neighbor to agree to keep him over at her house. Not enough fosters, and too many pets in trouble, or abandoned!   Good luck, and be sure to give updates!

Where do you live, Lovin?? Just curious. Sounds almost like you're in one of my neighboring states. I will keep you updated and let you know what I find out. I still haven't gotten replies from 3 or 4 of the shelters I emailed.

Yes, I am very close to you. {Maybe 2 hours away}  I live in a suburb north of the Twin Cities.  I just was checking my Rescues Pet List, and they have a plea for volunteers posted up right now, because of all the animals from Katrina.  We will be getting some dogs and cats from there.  Its an extreamly stressful, and busy  time right now for all rescues.  Im sure you know that.  Let me know if you want me to get the ball rolling, and ask to  see if we can get her into Pet Haven.  I just hope it all works out well, and at least the guy is not ignorant to just pass her off to anybody!  Maybe Sam will get placed quickly, and my neighbor could foster her.   My neighbor already has taught Sam many commands, and he is already turning into a better boy.  Still a tad territorial, that will take some work.  But she has taught sit, stay, wait, laydown, and heel!  She owns one Pit already, and I told her she should be a trainer!  She also said if she fostered another one, she would want to foster a female.   There is also 2 other folks at my rescue that will foster Pitties.  Oh by the way.  Sam's ex-owner tried getting Sam into 22 rescues around here, with no good luck.  {Sanctuary was one of them!}  But I do want to also say, if you have a cell phone, you should call the groups.  Email sometimes gets put on the back burners.  Ill check in later, let me know what you find out.  I think its harder to find enough fosters ESPECIALLy for Pits, because as you know, some people are scared of them.  I think its foolish, and it just makes me more determined to help.  Good Luck again!

You're prolly a little more than 2 hours away from me........like maybe 3 1/2-4. I live in the NW corner of Iowa, about 15 miles from the Iowa Great Lakes (Okoboji, Arnold's Park, Spirit Lake). I'll surely let you know what I find out from Sanctuary Plus. They're the only ones that emailed me with a sliver of hope. The rest that emailed me said their shelters were completely full, but that they're sad that we have a ban on pits in my town.

Thats great Mollie, I hope they take her in!   Ive been to a 2 of there events/adoption days a while back, about a year or so, after I had placed my own foster dog, and I was thinking about either adopting or fostering a Pit or Pit mix.   So I went to there adoption to look at all of them there.    I hope they can help. It is so sad for banning the whole breed there.  Thats really nice of you to look into all of this for her! What a big heart you have.

**blushes** thanks, Lovin. I was going to take her into my home until I could find a home for her, but that means that if she's not UTD and spayed, then I'd be responsible for doing that and I just don't have the funds right now. Plus, it's a friggin zoo here with 3 dogs, one of which is a LARGE PUPPY, and a bird!! I don't think I could even begin to handle another pup right now, especially without Brad. Plus, he would frown on it anyway and I wouldn't want to endanger my own dogs, given her breed. Not saying that I'm prejudice against the breed, just know that they tend to not get along well with other dogs, especially those of the same sex, which I have 2 other females right now and adding a 3rd would just be hell!! lol. I do hope they'll reply to me though!! If not, then I'll be asking you for help so be prepared!! lol

Well you certainly have your hands full with your own houseful.  I understand , I think it might be too hard to bring her in your home without Brad there.  And the same sex aggression thing could be stressful too.   Just try your best, and see if you can get her in a rescue.  Keep me updated, I hope she will get a happy ending like Sam did.  {Hes not adopted yet, but at least hes getting love, some training,  attention, vet care, and quality food on a regular basis!}  Its like a whole new world for him, and you can just see in his eyes how much he appreciates it!   Did you try to call Sanctuary, or Animal Ark?  Animal ark is a shelter, but they also have foster homes.  They are also a no kill shelter, who recieves Pits from the cities because the inner city shelters in the Twin Cities,  will euthenize Pit adults, or find them a shelter/rescue if they pass all the temperment tests.  Just another idea.

Just letting you know, I'm working with the Doberman Rescue of Nebraska to try and find her a place to go now. The lady at DRON said not to take her to any shelter up in the cities until I get an OK from her. Apparently maybe there are some shady "rescues" and "shelters" up there?? Maybe she's just worried because of some areas of the Cities, I don't know. I already told her about Sanctuary Plus being the only rescue that responded without saying that they're completely full, blah blah blah.

Yes there certainly are some shady ones.  I am well aware of all the shelters around the Twin Cities that PTS high amounts of pet.  Animal Ark certainly is not one of them.  But keep up the good work, and here is Sam , the one I got into my Rescue at Pet Haven!  He was put on Pet finder today! Yea!

WOW! Are all dogs that much? I honestly was suprised how much his adoption fee is. At our shelters they range from $50-$75 only once did I see one for $100 and that was a purebred English bulldog puppy. I hope price as well as distance doesn't hinder his adoption . I think it is odd that they restrict it to only 60 miles away. I have adopted out my foster dog to Nevada and I live in WA.

Yeah, Katz there are a lot of rescues and shelters that will only adopt out a certain number of miles or hours away. It really sucks, but if they don't have the resources to do follow-ups and such, then they really can't do it.
I ended up paying $150 for Lexie and that was from the Humane Society!!! I don't even live in a big city area and they charged that much!! Their usual fee is $85, but they upped it since she's a purebred dobe. Sucks!! Why does it cost more to feed and take care of a purebred than a mutt?? Just don't get it.

Lovin, I may just need your help!!! I still haven't heard from Sanctuary Plus and the lady that was trying to help me, from the doberman rescue, said she couldn't find anyone either. PLEASE HELP ME!!!
