They are two completly different  things. With a hurricane they have days/weeks to do something about it. Usually a totnado will pop up without notice and you only have 5-15 minutes to find shelter. Here are teh difentions between the two. Plus we get tornados here all the time...I live right in tornado alley here.

Hurricane...In meteorology, a tropical cyclone (or tropical storm, typhoon or hurricane, depending on strength and location) is a type of low-pressure system which generally forms in the tropics. While some, particularly those that make landfall in populated areas, are regarded as highly destructive, tropical cyclones are an important part of the atmospheric circulation system, which moves heat from the equatorial region toward the higher latitudes

Tornado...A violent rotating column of air, in contact with the ground, pendant from a cumulonimbus cloud. A tornado does not require the visible presence of a funnel cloud.

Here are some pics of tornados that have hit here in my city.

This was in 79 and it destroyed half the city and killed a lot of people.

Im thankful we have tornados and not hurricanes!  I thought the damage wasnt bad when the cities here got hit by two tornados on wednesday.  I was very wrong!  Enormous trees went down, many people just got power yesterday, and schools were closed thursday, and some still closed on friday.  Many houses were totalled, and 1 person was killed. {By a falling tree branch}  It was scary for many people.  Tornados are bad enough.  I cant even imagine what a hurricane must be like, especially 2.  Those poor people on the coast, I feel terrible, hopefully they wont have anymore fatalities other then that bus that burned 24 evacuating elderely people alive.

Ipersonally would rather go through a hurricane than tornado. Because with a hurricane you at least have a pretty long time to leave and get within safe land. With tornados you only have minutes.....
