today was scary!! I was in my backyard with my neice and a stray german shepherd mix came running up to my fence, he looked friendly but then he growled and bit at my fence trying to get to us! I was so scared..I was screaming at the dog and my neighbors thought I was telling them to come get their dogs so they started swearing at me saying "Its not our f****** dog! " Then the dog ran to them and they went at it and it tried to attack them but they got back in their fenced in yard..then he started walking down the street so we went to warn the neighbors with children to stay inside...we called the cops but they didnt take it seriously and they came like 20mins after we called, they drove around the block I hope they found the dog he was really vicious!
wow ! its a good thing your yard is fenced. too bad you didnt have a hose handy, you could have sprayed him. the neighbors probably called it in too. they will look harder for animals that are threatening people. it would be nice if you knew wether he got picked up or not. i would just be careful when you have to go outside your fence for awhile.
Those are the way a Rabid dog acts, and if he bites you, good long series of shots to the midsection later, you will survive the virus? You have every right to suspect stray dogs, unless you have a reliable copy of their health history in your hands.... Other than that, some dogs will bite your face off [a part of my body that I need to make rent] and it it is wayyyy good to be cautious.
grrrrrrr I was out playing with JD and I saw the dog again walking by on our street! I called the cops again and they came but they said the animal control officers wont do anything unless the dog is confined! And i asked if he could do anything to confine him and he looked at me like i was crazy and said "im not getting out of this car" ..its nice to know the neigborhood is in danger of a dog and no one can do anything about it! what if he bites a child..grrrrrrr
Did you ask him if you could shoot it? Maybe if they think you would do something crazy, they will be more interested in dealing with it. Coming from a law enforcement family, my advise is that you now call that cop's watch commander at the station and report the officer's reaction, your concerns for children, and ask the higher up what he can do to fix the situation...He may get animal control to respond in a more effective way, if he thinks there will be a big stink about it.
I didnt ask if i could shoot it lol I asked him if he was going to shoot it but he said he cant do anything about it...I dont know what the officer's name was but i am going to keep calling and bugging them until something gets done..
DON"T CALL AND BUG THEM. ASK FOR THE WATCH COMMANDER. There are some positions in the police dept.. that are for dealing with public relations and officer response. The lower ranked folks will field your complaints, the commanders will make the officers respond to your demand. You see, the officer does not have the AUTHORITY to respond to the dog problem until he is ordered to do so, by someone that will be responsible then to that stray dog's owner's complaints[which could be huge]. If that really does not work, with either city police, or if the Sheriff's are contracted to your town, then you go to City Hall, and get someone specifically designated to deal with health and safety hazards. Cut out the middle men, and be a serious concerned citizen, not a nuisance...
