She hates them. The closest Taco Bell is 45 min. from me. When Gillian and I got home I cut one up and stuck her medicine in a couple of bites than I gave it to her. She smelled it and walked away. I've tried giving it to her 3 times now and she just smells it and walks away. I'm so disappointed. I'm going to go today and get some strong smelling cheeses to see if that works. If it doesn't I'm going to buy a pill crusher and just sprinkle the medicines on something.

mys gsd used to be the hardest to give pills too. this sounds mean, but i shove the pill down his throat. if its pushed far enough back, it will automatically go down.you have to push it as far back as you can. and be fast . it is the only way i can give him pills. now my frenchies, on the other hand, will eat the pills plain, but they will eat anything and everything. lol
i put harveys pill in a ball of peanut butter and he swallows it whole but he has got a big mouth and a pig when it comes to treats ~ i used to try dustys technique by put them to the back of his throat and holding his muzzle shut and gently rubbing his throat to induce him to swallow
Dusty I've tried shoving it down about 3 times. I don't know how she does it but she spits it out, well she pukes it out. Lots of things come out. She just keeps gagging until out it comes. Yesterday I held her mouth open and had Kaitlyn stick her finger down her throat and shove the pill down. When Kaitlyn got it down there I held her mouth closed and rubbed her throat with her nose tilited in the air. As soon as I let her go she started gagging and everything she ate yesterday came right up. Gross I know and mean, on my part, but I don't know what else to do.

yeah, it sounds like you might have to crush up the pills and mix them into some kind of food that she really likes. my dogs go nuts over the salsbury steak t.v. dinners. maybe you could mix it into the gravy in one of those or something that she will pig down fast before she really taste it ! lol
Have you tried one of those pill poppers? Chason was the same way...no matter what I tried he wouldn't fall for my tricks. I went to Petco and they sell a pill popper device. You just stick the pill in there, put the long straw device in the pups mouth at the back of their throat, and pop the pill through. If you do it quick it's no big deal. It's the ONLY thing that worked for me.
Our superpetz store just got a different type of pill popper. Its made by greenie and you put the pill inside this circular treat and give them the whole treat. We just put it on the shelf yesterday so I dont know how well it would work.
BTW....my reply screen is a little odd, so if my font is screwy that's probably why
The cheese didn't work either. I called the vet and they said cream cheese because it sticks to the pill and the dogs aren't able to separate it. Well, Zoe smelled the cream cheese and walked away just like she did the burrito. I called her back and the first time she told me not to break it open but since nothing else worked she told me to break it open and sprinkle it and mix it really well into some soft ice cream. I gave up yesterday and didn't try the ice cream. I mostly didn't do it yesterday because I didn't have any ice cream and I didn't want to go all the way back to the store. I had made enough trips. After my pilates this morning I am going to get some ice cream and we'll try again.
