I'm baaack!

I am back from seeing the puppies and I am so in love.  I am head over heels in love with Manny and Jack.  I'll take either one, I don't care which.

I felt like I was on an interview tonight.  The questions they were asking me.....whew!  Thank God I passed.  I'm on the phone with my mom right now and I can't concentrate so I'll tell you about them when I get off of the phone with her.

They have their last vet check on Friday and they are going to make their decisions over the weekend.  I'm supposed to call them on Friday night after I've had the week to think about it and give them my first and second choices and they will let me know how the check up went.

They were so active today.  They were jumping around all over the place crazy today.  I'll check and see if I got any good pictures.

Thanks Dusty!  I need prayers and whatever else anybodys got.  I want one of these puppies so bad.  I am so in love.  They are snorting and everything.  Last time we were there they weren't snorting yet.  I carried Manny back to their room when we left and he was snorting away in my ear.  I told him I was going to go home and dream of his puppy breath and his snorts.

So when I first got there they brought out all of the puppies and we played for a little while.  After about a half hour they took all of the girls in because they know I want a boy.  They had me examine the boys and order them from 1-3 on the order I would place them and if I thought any of them show quality.  I told them that I thought they all 3 definitely were show quality and I placed them in order from best to worst.  I put them Manny, Jack, than Moe.  I said but don't count little Moe out.  He may not be the best to standard but he's got a lot of flash and thats what a lot of judges look for in bulldogs.  I could see Cindy smiling.  I know she thought I'd done good.   Anyway they had, had some friend of theirs come in last week and evaluate the dogs with them and how they thought the order should be with show quality.  The men believe Manny is best (I do too) and the women think Jack is first.  After that they just started questioning me on their health and stuff.  They wanted to make sure I knew all about their complications and things that can happen.  Of course I do.  I've researched the breed since I was 6.  Anway thank God I passed that with flying colors too.  It all comes down to, I am definitely getting one.  Okay, I won't say definitely, I haven't signed anything but you know what I mean.  They have someone that they have worked with for years that wants a show male.  The wife wants Manny and the husband wants Jack.  They believe that the wife will win and they will take Manny.  Manny has developed cherry eye.  Now before we talk about how terrible this is most bulldogs develop cherry eye.  They have only had one of their bulldogs or puppies to develop cherry eye, besides Manny, that they know of.  Since Manny has developed cherry eye before he goes to his permanent home they are going to pay for the surgery.  The opthamologist that they use who does the surgery if the cherry eye happens to ever come back (after surgery there is a 99.9% chance that it won't) he will redo the surgery at no extra cost.  So this could turn out to be a good thing.  I get his cherry eye fixed and I don't have to pay for it.  I'm not concerned about the cherry eye.  It doesn't do any harm to the bulldogs and its just a fact of life for most bulldogs.  Here's the other thing.  If they do happen to give me Manny I will pay for the surgery.  These people don't have anything.  They live for their dogs.  They can't afford the surgery and I can.  Okay, they can afford the surgery but not as well as I can so I will pay for the surgery.  I am not going to tell them this up front because I want them to give me the dog they think I should have.  I don't want them to give me the dog just because I'll pay for the surgery.  I don't think they would do that but than again I don't know their financial situation after just having these 2 liters of puppies.

The pictures aren't great.  They were way to active for good pictures but here's what I've got.

This one is Manny and Cookie.  Manny is the one looking head on at the camera.

This one is Jack sitting with Kaitlyn.

This one is also Manny.

Manny's face is a LOT wrinklier and thats why I like him better.  Jack has a wonderful personality but I worry about him with Zoe.  Zoe is so dominant.  Jack isn't as dominant but he also isn't going to take any **** off of anybody.  I'm afraid there will be quite a few tiffs with him and Zoe.  Although it may work out.  Somebody may finally put her in her place.  LOL!  I just don't want to deal with that though.  I live happily with 6 dogs all in peace.  I'm afraid of Jack because of the chaos it could cause if Zoe decides he's to dominant.

they are both too cute. they look alot alike in the pics. i myself, would probably pick jack if i had too. only because i like the markings around his nose a little better and he looks a little thicker in body. but i would take either one. they are all cute. that cookie is sure a big girl !! wow !!

She is isn't she?  She's only a week older.  They're worried that she's going to get to big and be waaaay above standard.  They're going to hang on to her for a while.  They don't know wether to sell her show or pet quality.  They don't charge any different but they don't want to give her to a show home and her not make it in the ring and they don't want to give her to a pet home and waste her not being in the ring because other than size she's gorgeous and is almost perfect.  They have another one that their not sure about either.  Her chest isn't very deep.  She reminds them a lot of Al though.  She has the same markings as Al did and Al's chest wasn't very deep either and now he has several Best In Shows under his belt.

Here's Als best in show pictures.  Isn't he gorgeous?  He's the reason I started talking to these breeders at the show in the first place.

Take Jack, or Cookie.
I'm looking at the pictures, I just don't like the way Manny looks, and, common or not, the cherry-eye makes him not worth the money you are paying. I absolutely would not buy a dog with any defects.
They need to have panache. Jack and Cookie have it in those photos. Manny does not feel well...
You are not buying a dog out of pity, you want to show, remember that.

It is good that they wait to sell the pups like they do. You cannot tell anything on pups before 6wks., and I will not choose my own until at least 8wks.
I always keep the best for myself, and have been known to not even let ANY females be available to buyers...

Sorry, but in the picture with cookie, Manny's limbs seem very out of alignment, both down in the wrist, and turned out, as well. His attitude is blah. I would say that Jack and Cookie were both having a better day.
Remember, I begin judging my dogs with conformation. If there is ANYTHING that I don't like, I wait till the next litter, or breed against the flaw, and keep her offspring, not the mom...
Maybe those pictures don't do him justice, maybe he had a bad day. I don't like the dog you named Manny in those photos.
I agree that if Cookie does not stop growing she will be too tall, but girls grow faster than guys, maybe it was a spurt.
Just based on the photos, I pick Jack.

Well we have decided we're not taking Manny.  The pictures don't do him justice.  His limbs aren't turned out.  It's all of his wrinkles that make him look that way in the pictures.  The puppies were all very tired.  This was the last 10 minutes we had been there.  Katie and I were there for 2 hours and before we got there they had just had them outside for 2 hours.  They had been playing non-stop for 4 hours and thats a lot on a bully, any puppy but especially a bully.  I have just decided that even though cherry eye isn't a serious thing in bullys and even though it is very common if he's already popped a cherry eye what else is to come?  We don't even know if we're going to take Jack.  He's not extremely dominant but he's not going to take any crap off of anybody and we don't know how well that will work with Zoe.  Although if someone stands up to her it may be good.  I don't know.  I just want to keep the peace.  I'm going to go back out and take another look at Moe this week.  They have given me the name and # of a friend breeder of theirs who just had a littler a week ago.  I was just in heaven after getting home last night and hadn't thought things through correctly.  Today I have more sense.

They are all cute, but it makes perfect sence what you said about the various issues. You are paying for a good healthy dog, get the one you really want, don't settle.
