I am going to stop taking my dogs to the dog park everday, all this talk about canine influenza scares me. So I want to take the dogs on long walks in the morning. But Hyde is only 5 months, is it ok to take him on long walks, like an hour or two, if all we do is walking? We wouldnt be climbing any hills or anything, just walking around the neighborhood.I'm asking cause ive heard you cant take a puppy jogging with you because they are still growing and stuff, so is walking the same?
And a second question. I looove going hiking, i found this bueatiful trail in Malibu that ends at a waterfall. I would love to be able to take Hyde, how old do you think he should be before he goes hiking. This trail is not strenuous, just some hills. Thanks!
I know Oscar is a giant breed but I didn't go on long walks until he was almost to his full size. I did't want to do any damage to his hips and put too much stress on him. But we did go on frequent short walks. The most exercise Oscar got when he was young was normal play in the yard or at the park.
I think long walks are fine. My dogs get walked 2 miles everyday and normal play in the house and backyard. I have never taken them to a dog park. I don't see any reason why that would cause a problem.

i think hyde should be o.k .. stopping on a couple of occasions for a rest and a drink so he doesnt get de-hydrated and just monitoring him seeing how he is coping..the trail sounds idyllic ending with a waterfall.. its the flat lands around here so i haven't ever seen a waterfall
I take Oscar on long walks since he is grown....I wasn't meaning to never take them. But with some dogs when they are still young too long of walks can hurt their hips.
