quinn called on an ad today for english bulldogs.i dont know why, we are NOT getting another dog right now. we can not afford it. he just doesnt get out and loves talking to people. he was on the phone with the guy for awhile. i know the girl down the road just got another english bully pup.she had to put her first pup down several months ago. it had several severe problems. encephalitis (water on the brain) neurological problems that started affecting his walking. and when he got to the point where he couldnt walk and was suffering she put him down. well out of curiosity i told quinn to ask him if he sold one of the pups to a girl named casey. sure enough and he said this pup was sick when he sold it to her and he told her it was. then he asked quinn if he thought it could be parvo ! my lord ! this is a breeder ! wether she knew it was sick or not, he had NO business letting a sick pup out the door ! he sold the pups for 1500 dollars. and he should have had all four pups at the vet getting thourough check-ups before letting them go. i dont know why she would buy another pup from the same breeder when she had so many problems with the first one. i want to go talk to her because i think she just wants a bully and doesnt know what to look for. quinn thinks i should mind my own business. i just hate to see her go through what she did with the last one. i think she is just young and uninformed . i feel i could help and quinn thinks she deserves what she gets for not wising up the last time.
I think you should talk to her. There are way to many health problems with bulldogs to mess around with bad breeders.
Also, another thing, they are just bulldogs. They are not english bulldogs. The correct term is just bulldog. Than you have the American bulldog and French bulldog. Don't take it personal Dusty. Everybody does the same thing but since this is my breed to be it irritates me.

Thats so sad. Yes you should talk to the girl. But you would think she would do some research after what happened to her first pup, instead of shelling out 1500. I pray nothing happens to the pup...sick wise.
I think you should talk to her too...i also found what zoe said interesting, i thought they were called english bulldogs..thats what they said when i bought mine that i used to have
i know they are "just" bulldogs. i also did alot of research on the breed when we were undecided between the english and the french breeds. but there are many different variations of the bulldog breed. american bulldog, english bulldog, olde english bulldogge, french bulldog, alapaha blue blood bulldog, valley bulldog, and the banter bulldogge.its alot easier when discussing the breed with others to call it an english. just saying bulldog could cover any of the above breeds. and most people dont distinguish the particular breed without engish in front of it.
The breeder's reaction, asking "do you think it was parvo?' may have something to do with attempting to draw out info from an alternate source. It is possible that the breeder sees the need to either refund, or provide at no charge, a replacement pup[either way they lose the $1500.], and is just making sure the puppy buyer did not go out and kill the baby, exposing it to parks and petstores... It is possible that the breeder had an aberant pup, disclosed it's problems, and the dog was purchased, anyway. It is quite likely that the breeder expects to replace the pup, providing the health problems were known, even in verbal agreement, before purchase. Chase your friend towards getting a free pup from the same breeder. If your friend was responsible for the pup's demise, let it go, as an expensive lesson to her...
Yes, I too would be very wary of that breeder who started placing blame on someone other then themselves. I had my own experiece with Hollys AKC breeder, and she started placing blame left and right. Finally she said she did it without proof, but she sent me a check for like 120.00 even though I had paid 5 hundred something for her, and another 500 dollers in testing to find out why she was seising. Beware of that breeder for sure!!
And I also agree that if you just say bulldog that does cover many, many different breeds, most know them by English Bulldogs. I have my Mia who is an Olde English Bulldogge, but Im still not sure on the correct spelling as there is so many variations on that. But you know what I mean.
i went over there yesterday, but no one was home. i know it is just her and her mother that live there. i want to talk to her before i take my dogs around her pup. the breeder told quinn on the phone that she knew the dog was sick when she bought it. i dont know if he meant her first pup or the one that she just got. my dogs are all current on their shots, but i dont want to take them around her pup if it is sick or bring anything back to my dogs. especially now that i know that that canine influenza is in our town. my dogs lead a very sheltered life. i just am way overprotective of them.even though our yard is fenced, i go out with them. it only takes a second for someone to snag them. they are so friendly and would go to anyone. i also worry about wild animals, especially since i found that dead rabbit. i wouldnt want to live anymore if i lost either one of them. they are my life.
Very smart Dusty. Over the years I have met a lot of hard headed, stupid, ignorant puppy buyers. It is real hard to make a judgement call on anyone you don't know pretty darn well. Some folks think that they can do stupid things, but if anything goes wrong, it was "that Breeder" that caused the problem. There are bad and ignorant people out there breeding dogs, too.
We are a pretty educated group, sharing knowledge the way we do. If someone that you encounter is not in a breed club, does not spend quality time on dog forums, and does "whatever my vet says", [whether they can even remember or fathom what that vet did say], I would suggest you not let them bring germs into your house.
Me, I am over cautious, my dogs are less socialized, except to each other. The 4 dogs, cat and I live here in a revolving sphere of peace, love, and controlled Labradoric destruction.
This should be a warning to all breeders and anyone seeking a specific breed of dog. So many times you have people breeding thier dog to make a quick buck. My mother-in-law tried to do this with her minature schnowzer, Mindy. Her first litter had Parvo, I had my pup for one day and we named him Hercules, He died four days later at the vets, My son at the time was four he was destroyed, he wanted that puppy. The whole litter died because my mother in law want a quick dollar. She breed Mindy one more time and sold the pups, she didn't make the money she thought she would as Mindy was not very well tempered. Her second littter was healthy but there were problems with the second litter pergancy, Special diet, lots of vet visits. My mother in law sold Mindy about a year after her second litter due to behavior problems. She has never treid to backyard breed since.
