I have so many things I need and want to do today that I have to leave my house for. All of the town is shut down today because a police officer got shot last Thursday and the funeral is today. They have the town barricaded and no one can get in or get out. I was able to drive around the town this morning but the funeral started at 12 and now they have all of the streets closed for the procession. They have another thing going on at 3. I hope its over in time for my husband to get home for work. I mean, I hate it for the police officer and I feel really bad for him and his family but this is kind of silly.

You must live in a really small town. I remember being in high school and someone important died in town they shut down the entire town. And I mean the only grocery store, the only gas station, the school after 12, and the inside of the post office. For people that didn't even know the person they had to put there lives on hold for someone they didn't know. And the closest grocery store was 30 minutes away. Yes, I do feel sorry for the family but lets not close everything down.
The town is pretty small but very wealthy. Not to be mean but you know how a lot of wealthy people are. I really think that is the reason for all of this. Anything for a social occasion, even if its at a funeral.

Well being all the cops will be going to the funeral, there won't be much help on hand if they are needed. Around town. So making people stay at home would make sense.
If there is anyone that has a vendetta against the police department, they are there to be picked off. I doubt the offending person would make it out alive, but he could do some damage. Sort of the way a gang member would be buried and they would have to watch their back. while at the burial.
I agree with all of that. I completely understand that the town should be shut down during the funeral and such. The problem I have is that they really are having a huge gathering. It started at 2 and lasts ?. I just walked down the street and looked and they still have everything shut down. The police force should have to take turns going to the "gathering." I wonder how many people can't get back in to their homes now that people are starting to be on their way home from work.

Now that does seem a little more than a normal funeral. More like a social gathering. Man, I hope everyone does that when I die. LOL!!!! Maybe they had a wake after the funeral.
Nope no wake. Its at the gym here in town. I found out about it when I took my dance class this morning. Kaitlyn also has gymnastics at the same gym and they canceled all classes for this afternoon. I'm glad I went this morning! It really is just a social gathering for the town. I feel really bad about talking this way when someone has passed but its now almost 8 and my husband isn't able to get home. He tried but than when he saw they had the interstate exit blocked he had to go to a friends house. I check every half hour or so to see if the barricades are down and nope! I feel really sorry for the guy and his family, I really do, but its just a bit aggravating.

what time did your hubby get home in the end..that would have bugged me having the whole town shut-down because of a funeral. It dont happen here thankfully ..i always take moment to say alittle prayer for the people or person thats died but life must go on and people have busy lives to get on with
At 9:30 they hadn't opened the roads yet. When I looked out at 10 the barriers had been moved. I called him than and he got home about 10:30. He didn't even get to see the kids yesterday because of it. I'm with ya Twink. I feel really bad for the family and such and I really hate it when someone dies, especially for something that could have been avoided, but life must go on.
