of someone who has a "real" funeral for their dog (with a preacher), a write up in the local paper's obit with a picture and buries the dog in a human cemetary?
Funerals and services are for the living only. The dead (human or animal) are in the spiritual world.
If someone wants to spend the money for a tribute to their love ones to help with their personal loss and grieving, that's o.k. Rituals for the dead are centuries old. Same result. It helps the living deal with their loss.
My grandmother had a funeral for Missy, her Boxer GSD mix. She is actually buried next to her now. She has her own head stone and all. My grandfather did the same with his Boxer Buttons she is also buried next to Missy. My Uncle Buried his Boxer Max next to his plot which is next to my grandparents. My family has a HUGE area in the cemetary in Maine for all of the family. I'm only 24 and I already have a place along with my hubby if we choose to be buried there. There is also room for our animals if we choose.
i think its basically to each his own. if it gives them more comfort over the loss of their pets, then why not ? as long as they dont bury them in the "pet cemetary" they would be okay .
We had someone do that here not long ago but it was their cat. But I don't find anything weird with it. I plan on cremating(sp) Oscar and he is going to be buried with me or Brad....
I really want to cremate Joe because he's so big, I don't care about his the ashes or his body buried here....I have plenty of pics, memories and video. His body was just a shell for his soul. Once he's gone, he's gone...having the ashes or body won't make it better for me, honestly.
I prefer cremation for all the obvious ressons. Being buried is so disgusting, I've done my research and will not be buried when I die. It's a waste of money.
