any home remedies?

i had some kind of bite on my cheek, right next to my ear. that was two days ago. now the whole side of my face is swollen and hard. i think its abcessed. i will break down and go to the clinic if i have to, but wondering if there was something else i could do for the swelling. its all the way down into my neck.i'm starting to get worried. but petrified of going to the doctor. any ideas ?

I just wouldn't mess with it...its not worth it. Just go to the doc! My mom made me go get my toes fixed yesterday...and i did NOT want to go...so this is what she said to me:

"jessica, if it was either of your dogs that were hurt, I know for a fact that you wouldn't even hesitate to take them to the vet and get it checked out...SO DO THE SAME FOR YOURSELF!"

good luck!

I have 2 things to say...
1] Benedryl treats beestings, and swelling due to allergic reaction to Lepto vaccine in my Labs. A pup gets one pill, a dog gets two.
2] A guy at the restuarant with an unknown swelling, opted to go to the ER because he had a friend that died of the symptoms you are describing.
Me, I would try Benedryl capsules, then rush to the ER if it does not work within a half hour.

Sounds like a spider bite to me. That happened to a few people I know. Warm compresses should be put on it often to bring up any poisons. It will get worse looking, just to warn you. Thats if its what i think it is. Could be a brown recluse.

Dusty,
Hobo spiders have been running rampid in Washington lately. I wouldn't chance it. Go to the doctor and get it checked out. Chances are you are just going to get sent home with meds and you will feel all better but if it is a Hobo they can be dangerous and deadly at times so please go get checked out or I will drive all the way over there and make you go!!! LOL

My first gut reaction when I read your post was a spider bite. Me I would go on up to the doc.or ER and have it looked at. I could be something serious but then again it may not. But I wouldn't take a chance. Good Luck let us know if you find out what it is...

well i just got back from the clinic. its a clinic that works on a sliding scale fee, as i have no medical. when quinn called them and told him what was going on they had me come right in. well its a good thing i did. they think it was a bite of some kind, most likely a spider and the infection had got into my lymph nodes . it looked like my lips were on one side of my face this morning and my neck and left side of my face was huge.i couldnt even look up, down or turn my head at all. when the doctor saw me, she gasped. i got a shot in the butt and put on some heavy anti-biotics. 500 miligrams .i have to take them every six hours for three days. i have to go back tommorrow at 10:00 and she wants to see if the antibiotics are working. everyone there was sooo nice and it only cost me 30 dollars for everything, including the prescription.she said if i had let it go much longer the outcome wouldnt have been good. thanks guys for telling me to go. actually kitty scared me into going. lol . i'm glad i did !  hopefully i will be back to normal before too long !  lol

Well good, see everyone worrys about the price but no price is worth death.  Did they tell you to do warm compresses also.

Now why does this remind me or that comercial with the guy with a huge swollen face that did not want to call after  7.

Thank god, I am good for something.
I'm totally low income, so I would be using a clinic, if I were in that situation, too.
Kinda nice, clinics...They get you in and out fast, no BS, they aren't trying to wheedle money out of you, like a lot of dentists&doctors. Just wam,bam,thank-you, and you are reassured that you are doing the right thing, and, you can still get dinner, and pay the rent...

well i went back to the clinic and they gave me another 7 day supply of antibiotics. i have to go to their other clinic on saturday. they did a culture to see if its the new bacteria that is going around right now. hopefully its not. the antibiotics that they normally prescribe do not work against it.the first doctor didnt say anything about the warm compresses. thanks puttin for mentioning those because the doctor i saw today asked me if i had been doing that ! lol . they are also worried about my jaw being so sore because this new bacteria attacks the bone. i,m glad i didnt put off going any longer.its looking worse than they thought. i have been soooo tired too and sleeping off and on all day. she said its from the antibiotics. they have me on 500 mil of cephalexin. my pups have been little worry warts over momma. as soon as i lay down , they are right there, smooching me up and cuddling up. its great having such wonderful little kids ! lol

Dusty girl you sound like me! I hate the doc. I'm so glad you did break down and go! Sounds like it was just in time. Rest up with your little snuggle bugs and take those antibiotics on time. Hope your back to normal really soon!!!!

I'm taking antibiotics, too, this week.
I have allergy from cigarette exposure at work, that was making havoc with my lungs [the allergy causes bronchitis]. After coughing, and almost suffocating for 3 weeks, I started Zithromax on Tuesday. I may take Cephalexin, if the Z-max does not knock it all out of me.
I am so tired of worrying if I can get air or not...
