I love my job, i love all the animals, the girls are nice too, but everything else about this job sucks. There is no organization, no real training process for new people, they dont even tell you when you do something wrong untill 2 weeks later when the doctor points it out! There is no communication which I believe is very important in running a businese smoothly.
And the schedule, thats my biggest annoyance! Im suppose to work tuesdays and thursdays from 7-6 and every other Saturday. Im always the first one there and last to leave. Sometimes on a Tuesday they will tell me i dont have to come in on thursday till 1 instead of 7, and i love it, then they call me the night before and tell me the schedule changed and to come in a 7 agian. Its pretty annoying.
Then they keep asking me to cover shifts which I do, but I also have a life and when they ask me to cover shifts they call me the day before, when they should have been figuring this out a week before.
This tuesday it was actually written on the schedule that I come in at 1 today, i was so happy, and I planneed on doing all this stuff in the morning before work. I get a call last night saying i have to come in a 7am and i have to work friday. Well they cant just tell me i have to work on a day i dont normally work two days before. They knew about this Firday shift they needed covered and should have figured that out a while ago. And im not going in Friday, i have another dentist appt and im not cancelling.
It just makes me mad that they think its ok to call someone two nights before and say you have to work on a day you dont normally. She didnt ask, just told me.
Its so frustrating cause it happens all the time. The office manager is the doctors son, so he doesnt do anything and he gets away with it.The place is run horribly and the only reason Im staying is because of the animals.
At my old job they made the schedule at least 2 weeks in advance, at this job they make it one day in advance. At my old work if you needed time off you had to request it 2 weeks before the schedule was made or you had to get someone to cover your shift. If something came up you where responsable for getting your shift covered and if you couldnt you had to work if you didnt work you would be fired. I think this is a good way of making schedules and requesting time off, its organized and its the rule. We need that at this job, instead of this unorganized mess they have. I guess I just get frustrated cause it happens all the time, everynight before I work I know they are going to call me to change something, or they call me to come in on my day off.
Im also left alone at work which you arnt suppose to be. Two people need to be there at all times and on like 98% of my shifts im alone for either 3 hours or half the day, sometimes the whole day, and then they wonder why i dont want to cover shifts at last minute. Also the main recptionist comes to work late, takes 3 hour breaks, and takes about 20 smoke breaks. She takes her lunch during appts times so I have to do everything myself, then she has me take my break during the time there are no appts, so she doesnt have to worry about being alone. Ugh!
Im so sorry i had to vent or i might have exploded at work today if they gave me a bad time about not coming in Friday.
I know this must sound bad...but I think they do this to you because they know you will do it. You need to start turning them down. My work did the same thing to me on Tuesday. (sort of) Since I am the new cashier they stuck me in the deli when someone called in. I hate the deli and I will never go back there again. But because I was new they give me the sh*t work. Suck!!!!
I am sorry! That would make me so mad also! I have to have structure and organization or i would be on edge all the time. I have my schedual until jan 7th!
I understand your fustration about the scheduling. That the way petsmart was. I remeber one day I left work and i checked the schdule which i had a copy of at home to see if i had to work the next day. It said i was off. The next morning i get a call from my manager saying that i was late and i was suppose to open. I told her no i'm suppose to be off. She told me the schdule says i open so fine i grabbed my copy of the scedule got dressed at went to work. When i got there i told her i checked the schdule before i left and this was want it said and i showed her the schdule. Then she told me that one of the other manager changed the schdule. I asked her why no called to tell me this considering the copy they gave me was wrong and they knew it. They said i should have called. Well needless to say 3 managers left because of this problem and one other. LOL
Maybe a little business meeting should occur, I think the vet probably know nothing. Either you continue this way, get a backbone and tell them no, or screen your calls. Or quit. People walk on you when you allow it.
i agree with puttin. as long as you allow it and dont say anything, it will continue. i would call a meeting. have everyone there including the boss so that he can also hear whats going on. enough is enough .as long as you lie down, people will continue to walk on you.
