Im gonna make a new rule at my house that the dogs cant go on the couches. One of them just peed on it and im pretty sure it was Hyde. Anyways my couches used to be really nice, now they kind of smell and have hair all over it. So im gonna vacum the couches and steam clean them today, and either the dogs cant go on them or i have to keep sheets on them.
How can I train 4 dogs not to go on the couch when thats were they normally sleep and hangout?
Im gonna bring the dog beds into the living room so they have other options. But what do i do when im not home? I can lock them in the cat room so they dont jump on the couch, but i dont know if thats a good idea.
The sheets thing is a good idea. I've put sheets on my couch ever since we had it for 5 months and it looked like it was 5 years old. It really keeps from their claws pilling the fabric or looping it.
I try not to let rufus on the couch and he abides by my rules when I am home, 95% of the time. When we go somewhere, I know he jumps up to the top of the couch to see us either leave or come back. little stinker. I think the only way to keep them off is put them in a room confined. The only reason I want rufus down is because of his shedding. We have a sheet on our couch, but underneith it I bought two baby crip mattress protectors, vinyl coated. Its saved my couch from Sasha trying to claim it in front of Lilly. Thats not happened in quite some time. It needs adjusting here and there, but keeps the pee from soaking into the couch.
Another way to deter them from getting on the couch is to buy one of those plastic carpet runners - the ones that have the little things that stick out on one side to catch onto the carpet so they don't slide. You can cut it to the length of your couch & lay it bumpy side up. Most dogs won't enjoy stepping or laying on those pointy ouchies!
my dogs dont get on my couches. sometimes they get the zoomies and go ripping through the house and they will jump on the couch and off the other side without missing a stride. lol . when they were younger they would get up there to catch the sun rays coming in through the window. if they were peeing on it. they would not be allowed up there. period. but i agree with puttins idea. a sheet alone will still leak through into the couch. a plastic liner will stop that and a sheet over it will catch any shedded hair. and you could use denises idea too and lay that over the top of it.
"the zoomies" Warp speed? There are scat mats, also. I have never used them, but mine are not loose in the house [they are in their kennels inside the house...right now they are taking turns destroying the yard, 2 at a time].
Most people think i'm crazy but this is why I have a "dog couch" LOL. I have 2 couches in my living room, 1 they are allowed on and 1 they are not allowed on. They all know which is which. They couch which is now theirs they peed on everything. Finally I got tired of it a got another couch, which when I first got it I would not allow them on they got the picture qucikly and went back to theirs. Everyone that comes in my house knows which couch to sit on and which one not too.
okay thats it. i just have to get one of those scat mats. not for the dogs though. when the girls drag their friends in and they wanna hang out in my front room and sprawl all over my couch.....boy would i have a surprise for them !!
