The other house

So I said I would tell you guys what happened with that first house we were going to get.

So two days after we saw the house and filled out the application, the landlord called me at work to verify my job, after talking to her, she had said we could have the house and if we wanted it we could meet her the next day to give it to her. So I called up my mom and Jason and told them. They decided to go back and look at the outside of the house one more time.

While they were they they met on of the neighbors. This lady told my mom and Jason that the landlord is a bad one. She said that the house has been vacant for 9 months and that the owner of it also owns the house next door and the empty lot. The neighbor told them that the neighborhood is in a lawsuit with this landlord cause the landlord wants to build an apartment complex, and the neighbors dont want that.

So after hearing this my mom wanted to know more about this lawsuit before we rented from her. I dont know much but I didnt think it was a big deal, we were going to rent and we would have had a year contract. Well anyway Jason and my mom called the landlord and asked about the lawsuit, the landlord said "its none of your businese, im not renting to you." and hung up.

So we decided that this is for the better and it was since we found this new house.

What are your opinions on this though? Should my mom not have asked about the lawsuit, or does she have a right to since we would be renting? Im not sure, I thought it wasnt our businse b/c we would have nothing to do with the lawsuit, we would just be renting a house. But my mom and Jason both say that it is our businesse if we would have rented from her. So what do you think?

My mom and Jason also thought this landlord was hiding something sice she got defensive so quickly and wouldnt say anything about the lawsuit. The second it was mentioned she flipped and said she wasnt renting to us.
Thanks

I was thinking, when you talked about the construction, that you would not be there for long. If a rental can be developed into several units on a lot, that is that much more money coming in.
The person is likely a shyster, and just wants someone in that unit while she tears stuff down around it, then will tear that unit down, also...
That is an awful lot of money you are paying, no wonder they let you keep dogs. If the security is substantial, you will likely lose it when the landlord uses it to replace the carpets when you leave [are there carpets?].
Imagine the soap opera you would have been living, if your neighbors hated your landlord?

kitty is so right. after the construction next door, youre house would probably be next. and you dont know what kind of legal stuff was going on. its better that things happened the way they did. and even though you would have gotten a years lease. a year goes by pretty quick. moving is a pain. espescially having to change all the utilities, and personal information. also if your landlady is not well liked, she could cause problems for you over your pets. you have a nice place now and your new landlord sounds great.and how many places come with a big screen t.v ?  lol    Boxing
