This year I'm hosting Thanksgiving at my house. I have never done this before. All of my family is coming in from TN and my husbands family is all coming in. There are about 30 from my family coming up and there are 12 from my husbands family. I have already ordered more of my mid-grade place settings. I have an everyday china, a mid china, and a good china. I have decided to use the mid one and since I didn't have enough I ordered more. Those will be here today. I have also ordered some burners and such to keep the food warm and I have ordered more of my wine glasses and my silver. That should all be here today. Can anyone think of anything else that I might need that is in that category?
As for the food here is my menu so far:
turkey gravy dressing mashed potatoes green beans corn pudding mac n cheese hash brown casserole cranberry sauce chicken cherry chocolate cake pumpkin pie pecan pie dirt cake (oreos and stuff, I know it sounds gross but its not)
I know I need more food. I've hosted dinner parties before but for some reason my mind is stumped on Thanksgiving food. Can someone give me some ideas please?

I have dinner rolls down. I just forgot to write those down. I have plenty of room at the table. I have a huge dining room table that will seat 20 and than I have another dining room table downstairs that has an extra piece for it that will seat 10 and than I have my kitchen table that will seat 10 also. I have all of the chairs for them. I just bought coffee yesterday so thats covered. I do need to get sodas and tea and stuff. Thanks for mentioning that. I'm going to write it down. I just got the swing set fixed out back so I hope its a nice day for the kids out there. I know Katie has lots of games but who knows if the pieces are all there. I think I'll run into Toys R Us on my outing today and grab some stuff. I can lock the wine cellar down there and lock the door to the bar and put the kids downstairs to play. I really hope its nice out though. I will also have 14 dogs here this weekend. YIPEEE! I already have lots of things for them today and they're all going to daycare on Friday. I've already scheduled and paid so thats taken care of.

We always have salad for the dieters....and you should make green bean cassarole. I htink you pretty much have everything else my family has. You should make plenty of snacks. Like a veggie tray, deviled eggs, and such. My dad always made this cream cheese spread that was always a big hit. You just put your cream cheese on a plate and put a small jar of jalopeno(sp) jelly on it and serve it with those townhouse crackers. Sounds weird but it taste so good.
She's right, all that food is pretty rich. I would not be able to eat it. She reminds me, the last time I went to Thanksgiving with the family, I brought salad, so I would have something to eat. I'm real fussy about food. My dad took some yellowed chopped salad he had in his fridge, and mixed it into the real fresh nice salad I brought, so I could not then eat it I think my meal consisted of a slice of turkey I won't touch most food other people cook. He took the dressings I brought and stuffed them in his fridge and brought out his old ones. Well, it was his party, I said nothing, but was glad I could make my own dinner at home, later. Some people's eating habits are so nasty. I throw away old, and 1/2 eaten things and just eat fresh stuff. I sure as heck won't eat someone else's leftovers, if I don't even eat my own.
I'm really excited. I'm on pins and needles right now waiting for Katie to get home so I can go shopping. She gets out at noon today. We're going to have so much fun. I have written down everything everyone has told me on my shopping list. I'm with kitty about not eating others people food. However, I will eat families food. I will eat leftovers also but only a day old. No older than that. Right now I'm trying to figure out where to put everybody and who I'm putting in a hotel. My husbands family won't be staying. The ones who are farthest away are only 3 hours away so they're all going home. I think I will have enough room for everyone to sleep here comfortably if I buy a couple of toddler beds and a crib. Gillian sleeps in a crib but there is a king sized bed in her room for my mom and dad and Kaitlyn. I can put the crib in Kaitlyns room for the other 2 yr. old and put a toddler bed in there for the 3 yr. old and mom and dad can have the bed. I can put the family of 3 downstairs because there is a huge over sized king size bed down there. And than I still have 2 extra rooms upstairs with queen beds. I'll figure it all out. I'm just so excited that I can't think straight. I'll also ask if anyone would rather sleep in a hotel, naturally. I'm just assuming that they'll all want to stay here. I miss my family so much. I'm so glad they're coming. I haven't been to TN since July.

Hey Zoe Where do you live again??? Exact address please so I can go to MapQuest.com! LOL JK
Anyways, Thats a lot of people. We usually have Thanksgiving's that big. We usually have more than one veggie. We usualy also have sweet potatos and regular. We usually have so much food in crazy. We usually have Ham and turkey, boiled onions, 2-3 veggies, home made breads, sweet potatos and regular, crandberry sauce (both kinds) 5-6 differnt pies, white and brown gravy, stuffing (inside the turkey and baked stuffing) homemade cookies, browines, and fudge. Plus usually each family member will bring something. Thanksgiving is almost always at my house as I have the room and the yard for all the animals and toys for kids. This year i'm taking a break, we are going to my father in laws. We are going over early so I can help cook and the men can start drinking early! LOL I'll be make my breads as usuall, I will make them tomorrow night. I'm actually make one tonight Pumpkin Bread! Yummy!!!
I got the black olives. I didn't think of them until I saw them at the supermarket. My husband and his family are Jewish so I'm not going to make ham. I'm going to make a chicken instead. I also bought a prime rib and thought maybe I'd make that with the turkey? I don't know. I think most people in my family will like hash brown casserole more than sweet potato so I decided to go with that. I am going to make cranberry sauce. I have never made this before so keep your fingers crossed. I'm not putting stuffing in the turkey because not everyone here likes it so I'm just going to make it separate. The girls made cookies today so that parts taken care of. They made LOTS! I thought about fudge but I haven't decided yet. I will have to wait and see if the mood strikes me to do it. I also am making a cherry chocolate cake and I have ordered pecan and pumpkin pie. I bought a 35 pd. turkey today. I hope that's big enough!
I won't give my address here because as much as I'd like for everyone here to come for Thanksgiving I don't want a crazy person showing up at the door just because they saw my address here.

No Mason. You didn't miss the pictures. The wedding was horrible and something I don't want to remember. I didn't take any pictures. I got so mad at my sister in law (bride) and I spent the whole weekend angry. My husband was extremely angry also and threatened to leave several times. Both of the kids were really grouchy. The wedding and all of its events were about 20 minutes from my mother in laws. We told her over and over we were just going to stay at her house because everything was there that we needed for the girls. She has a crib for Gillian and diapers and she has clothes for both girls so we wouldn't have needed anything for them except their wedding clothes. We could have stayed with the dogs and the kids could have had naps. Well she put us in a hotel anyway regardless of what we told her. Here's the kicker though. She didn't just put us in any hotel. She put us in a Hay Adams suite which was 1,000.00 a night. We went to check out assuming she'd paid for it since she was so adamant about us staying there, but no. She hadn't paid for it and we had to. We stayed 2 nights so it was a little over 2,000.00. Well now that we're home we see that they've double charged us and have taken 4,000.00 out of our account. So for the passed 2 weeks we've been trying to deal with them to get our money back. This miserable wedding is still following us around like the black plague. I am sorry I didn't take pictures but we were all miserable so at the time I didn't want to take any pictures. Once the photographer pictures come in I'll have some and I'll scan them and post some than. Also, next week I'm taking the girls to get their pictures made in their blue dresses for Christmas than the week after that I'm taking them to get their pictures made in their dresses they wore in the wedding so in a few weeks I'll scan and post those also.

Cranberry sauce is one thing that I make every year. Mix 1 cup of water, and 1 cup of honey, bring to a boil with one package of fresh cranberries. Don't leave this alone because if it boils over, you're screwed, it is ghastly hard to clean. Continue stirring and boiling on very low heat until all the berries look popped[some won't, but most do]. It will be thick at this point. Remove from heat and refrigerate, serve chilled. Having used honey for several years, I can't touch the kind made with sugar, the flavor w/the honey is more tart and much tastier..
That sounds yummy kitty. I'm going to make that one instead of the recipe I found. The recipe I have calls for sugar. I think the honey sounds much better. I love honey!

The sugar does not compliment the taste of the berries, it covers it up [too sweet]. Moreover, the sugar makes you feel ill, and the honey makes you feel strong... It measures the same, you would be using 1cup of sugar in the other recipe. You can use honey instead of sugar in most recipes, it measures 1 for 1 with sugar. If you want to double or triple the recipe just use more bags of cranberries. Each bag of cranberries has 2 cups of washed berries inside. I pick the darkest ripest looking berries. That many people would be 4-5 bags? So, 4 bags, 8 cups water, 8 cups honey [just get one of those large cans somewhere]. Use a long spoon [wood] to stir, it is very hot and sticky, so evacuate the kids, and be careful not to burn yourself. It is a very fast recipe to cook. Don't boil too high, it spatters, and is very red and staining.
..........sorry dusty, cancel my reservation from the other post.......i change my mind and im going to zoeandtucker's place. i dont know if it was the pecan pie ( my fav ) or the whole oreo thing, or maybe even the menu variety, but man that sounds sooooooooooooo good. how are u gonna top it at christmas??!! ill bring the tuna....
