Saturday we ventured back to where we got Tuff and bought 3 more fainting goats. We got a black and white doe (Lady) with a baby buck on her side. We've decided to name the little buck Young Buck (after the rapper...lol....plus he IS a buck).....he is black and white as well. We also got a light red/brown doe named Kailia (I guess you pronounce that similar to the vadalia onion...lol). We believe Kailia is in heat because Tuff just went nuts with her when we put them in the pen this morning.
This makes 4 fainters now. Kailia has fainted 4 times already....she is a VERY nervous goat.....great for laughs. My oldest son walked out the back door today and it scared her...yep....she fainted...lol!!
If all goes well, we are hoping to have a baby Tuff in June/July. Tuff also is with the 3 Boer goats who should kid in June as well.....but they will be half and half.....bred for meat purposes (slaughter) and not for pedigree.
Our first goat show will be on March 25th. We are hoping that John-Thomas (our 4 y/o) will be showing one of the goats......preferably Young Buck. We have never been to a goat show in our life...but fainting goat shows are very relaxed and not as strict about showmanship as the other breeds. Its more for fun.
In 2 weeks we are going back to buy another buck....he is almost 2 years old and has a MASSIVE set of spiral horns on him. He weighs about 200 lbs....just a sight to behold. Beautiful, beautiful goat.
I will get pics up as soon as I can. We are having so much fun with this and it helps get my mind off of the surgery and stuff.
In order to register the goats we had to have a farm name....so we decided on Sleepy Hollow Farms. I'm working on a website and will put the link up soon.
Neato. I'm looking forward to it. A friend of mine growing up had goats. Will you be eating yours? I don't know what she did with all of hers. I guess you could make feta cheese, if you had milk goats.
