Joe update :)

Joe went with me to work (I work at my vet clinic) and he had bloodwork done yesterday and my vet told me everything came back perfect and that it was very rare that a 13 year old dog's bloodwork looked that good. He had it done to make sure he was in tip top shape before going Thursday to get his teeth cleaned. She (my vet) also convinced me I could neuter him (Long story, we've had him since he was 4 and I didn't have a say about it and never thought it'd be safe to neuter an old dog, so I don't want any bashing kind of comments) but she betted me his prostate is enlarged and that this would definitely prevent it from getting larger and he wouldn't get cancer. I did know the importance of spaying and neutering but I didn't really know until about a year 1/2 ago, about all the health risks and stuff...So, I agreed they could neuter him while he was having his dental...Plus, I will be there at work that day so I can observe and he won't feel so alone all day. =(
Christy, another assistant, told me that alot of old unneutered males that come in are the ones that are sick and dying so that helped sway me too and I let mom know about it and she agreed to go ahead and do it. He's set in his ways, and he has no behavioral problems from having his balls but I'll feel better knowing that if he gets sick in the future, it won't be because of having his fuzzies. Well, I'll quit rambling!

Good luck little Joe. Our rescue has a 14 year old dachsie, healthy as a horse. It can happen, strange huh. LOL

Thanks, guys :)

I'm not too worried now that his bloodwork came back great...Sophie went in today for her yearly and my mom told the other vet, Dr.Walls, that any person would kill to have bloodwork as good as his (she understood it all since she's a nurse) and he totally agreed.

Dr.Curtsinger also told me his teeth look very good for a dog his age....I've seen so many oldies come in with tartar build up so bad it covers every tooth, and they have terrible breath and bleeding gums....I'm glad I started brushing his teeth....:) cause his molars, and premolars are the only ones with any buildup(it's a little brown) and his bottoms in the back and slightly yellowed and every other tooth is white...:)
