All the dogs have learned to use the dog door on their own, even Bear who is just 11 weeks old. I dont have to let Bear out anymore, he just goes by himself outside through the dog door, he is completly potty trained, i cant believe it.
Anyways Jason will be going out of town for a week. He is the one who watches Bear while im sleeping. Since he will be gone Im thinking of sleeping with the bedroom door open, then if Bear has to go potty in the middle of the night, he can just go by himself. He does this during the day but for some reason the idea of him going out by himself at night while im sleeping worries me a little. The fence is secured so im not worried about him escaping, and there is nothing bad in the yard that could get him into to trouble. I think im just not use to them having so much freedom.
Anyways do you guys think it would be ok to do this at night while Jason is gone? I've asked some co workers and they think its fine, but i just wanted to ask you guys.I think i still have to get use to the doggy door, im so use to letting them out when i want and bringing them back in when i want, this is a new thing for me. Thanks
I don't think its a good idea for 2 reasons. The first is that it will get Bear used to going outside during the night. You can't let him do it for a week and than start keeping the door closed again. The second reason is that you never know what can get in your fence. My fence is secure also but my dogs never go out without supervision. It's not that I'm afraid they'll get out. I'm afraid of what will come in.

I'm another worrywart who agrees. My dogs never go out unless someone is home and awake. If they have to go out at night then I just have to get up with them.
I also think it is a good idea for them to learn to alert their human that they need to go out. What if you took Bear somewhere where there was no doggy door - he needs to learn to let you know that nature is calling.
Is Bear a new dog? What about Sydney and I thought you had another.....Lana I think? This may sound silly....but does your b/f watch them at night as well? You just mentioned Bear so Im wondering if the other dogs are on a schedule or something?
I'm a man...what do I know...lol. It just raised my curiosity is all.
