Holy Cow!!!! My female hamster had 9 babies Saturday!!! We didn't think she was preggo but I guess she was! I was playing with them Friday night and there was no babies, Saturday morning I heard little squeaks and I looked in there and saw them. Hubby was still sleeping as he had just got home from work when I got up to go to work so I looked when I got home, originally I only counter 6 but she moved some of the bedding around and there were 3 more. She had them in the worst place in the cage, the wheel. See the cage has a little slide that is circular and at the top is the wheel, it's a in closed one that just has holes for breathing. She's having the hardest time keeping them up there, she is alway chasing them as they are falling out. The weird thing about it all is one fell down all the way and the male was at the bottom, I was watching and got scared cause I thought he would eat the baby which is what I've always heard the male would do. Instead he picked the baby up and brought it to the momma! I was soooo impressed with him. He's my little sweet boy!
Stormy, you might want to seperate them SOON. Male and Female Hamsters can "get busy" within a week of babies being born! Time for "Daddy" to get a new place! LOL
Also, try to either look yourself or have a vet look at the babies, because they will need to be seperated soon too(males and females) They can mate VERY EARLY!!!!!!!!!
Daddy's already in another cage. I have 2 cages but I had them together cause my male get lonely. I know that sounds funny cause hamsters are loners but when he's by himself he never runs in his wheel or anything.
I really don't want 12 hamsters but no one I know wants any. I tried to get my sister in law to take some but she didn't want any, prolly a good thing since i'll just get them back anyways.
Stormy, years ago I had a couple of hamsters and when they started having babies I made a deal with a small, local pet supply shop that sold pet supplies as well as fish & hamsters. They took all my babies and gave me store credit to use towards any supplies. Perhaps this is something you can check into.
These pics were taking a couple days ago and they have grown A LOT since these. They now are starting to show what color they will be and are about twice the size they are in these pics. Anyways, i'll get some mroe recent pics here soon..

Oh!!!! I wish I lived closer, I would take one in a heartbeat!! Dudley lived until he was 4. He was such a spoiled hamster!! LOL We haven't had the heart to get another one yet. It will probably still be a while, maybe when I get my studio open, I will get one for down there? LOL
Well today I cleaned the cage, didn't want to but I had to! Momma actually let me touch the babies with no problem. When I went to get the babies out there were only 5, so I'm guessing the other 4 died or sheeee killed them.
