Is this a pure Chow chow???

Someone from another board posted a picture trying to find out what this dog is.  The owner had a litter and is selling them as pure chow. What do you all think. I think not pure.

More like a GSD Chow mix. That is far from a pure Chow Chow!!!

That is one oddly marked Chow if it is! lol. Where's Katz? She would know. Doesn't look purebred to me either....

Nope, sorry, that is not a purebred Chow. It actually looks like it is more Belgian Tervuren. The ears and the snout do not look like a chow at all. But also the legs are way too long. Sad that people are being told that. Hopefully people would be doing breed research, especially if they are looking for a chow.

In the odd chance that it is a purebred chow, it is a POOR misrepresentation of the breed.

Cute pup nonetheless, just doesn't look like a chow to me.

Almost looks like the face is super-imposed on a chow body. Almost looks like a lab face on a chow head/body!!

I would say definatly NOT full chow but I have been fooled before and am not an authority of any sort on this breed. I personally don't like them maybe thats why lol but i still say not a pure chow.

I thought chow/tervuren mix as well.  I certainly don't think the pup is pure chow.  Does the whole litter look like this one or just some of the pups?  Perhaps there was a fox in the henhouse.  I recently met a Tibetan mastiff/malamute mix who was the only mix in his litter; the rest of the pups were pure malamute.  From what I gather, the person selling the pups didn't know her **** had another suitor, and the person who ended up with the pup didn't realize it was a mix.  She just thought that she had a funny-looking malamute, even though the dog obviously got most of his genes from the TM.

Of course, it's quite likely that the breeder knows the dog is a mix and is just out to make money.

I tried to post a comment a couple of days ago but it didn't go through....ugh  I love it when my comp. is on the fritz.   Anyways, been working lots so finally got a chance to post today

Definately not a pure chow, the face is to long and narrow.  The colors seem off to me, but I think it because it's been a while since I've seen any chow with a red body and black face like that.  I'm sure there are some chows out there that have the mulitple colors (I've never seen them)  I have only seen one picture of a piebald (black & white) chow and that is in a chow book that I have.  He was born in 1955 and only lived to be 11 months old.  (Ran to get my book)  His name was San Kee Atomic and was out of Jersey.

I was gonna say a chow/belgian mix just like Kat did.  I know a breeder of belgins and their faces are exactly like that dogs face.

He's probably sold them all.  People think "oh my, a rare type of chow, I MUST have it!". You know how it goes.

Then they want to breed these "rare" chows so they get another chow.  All are AKC and you have "purebred" chow pups with God knows what kind of lines in them.

This is why registries should NOT be looked upon as representative of a breed of dog and unfortunatley thats what people do.  If it's AKC, it must be gold...right?  Think again.

Nothing can tell you more about a dog than your own research and education.  Unfortunately, most people simply don't know all thats needed just to get a pet.
