I think we have decided to build a house..if not build then move into a new one. I really don't want to wait 4 to 6 months to get into a house. LOL!!! We will make our minds up in the next few weeks on what we want to do. The house we have picked out is 4 bedroom, two bath, and two car garage. Awesome kitchen...gorgeous bathrooms. It has about 2100 square foot and priced to sell at 165 thousand. They have another model home that was just as pretty but a tad bit smaller. its price is 155 thousand. Too many choices. We plan on looking at more this weekend.
Lol, same here Stormy! Houses run about 200-250 here. New or 'used' lol. I think they're the same price because while the house is new, so is everything else. It's not established yet. Not a lot of trees, not a lot of ammenities (like Walmart nearby, lol). Whereas the older homes are in established neighborhoods and have huge yards. But a house that big would be like 300,000 brand new here.

Geeze, a 4 bedroom house here would be around 6-7 hundred thousand. Man I want to move where you are.
Stormy, my boss has been talking about moving to florida or getting a vacation home there, but after spending three weeks there during the ren faire. He said forget it. Traffic is oddly worse than here.
My god guys! Where do you all live??? Houses here go for a LOT cheaper then that!!! Like, $70,000 - $120,000 here! Prices are rising slowly every year. I WISH we lived in a place where houses cost more! LOL

Traffic is horrible here. There are always people on the road no matter if it's 1PM or 1AM. I hate driving, I make hubby do all the driving. I'm glad I only work 2 miles down the road, I don't get road rage that quick yet. People always say how they hate driving here. I was at work the other day and there was this guy from CA, he said he rather drive in rush hour traffic in LA then here!!! Now thats BAD!
And rush hour sucks. Thats mostly when people are getting off of work. I also try to avoid going shopping when school has just let out. Everybody drive their kids to school, and if they are not driven, there is the lunkhead kids that take their sweet time walking across the street. God that pisses me off.
But man it must be really bad over there.
Oh I am on the coastline of California Katz. You don't know how lucky you are to have lower costing homes.
Real Estate is really cheap here in North Texas. Thia house right here is 340,000 and its brand new. Thats one reason why I love the market here. You can get one hell of a house for hardly anything.
Puttin, Actually, with hubby being in real estate, I would like to live where the houses cost MORE! LOL They are really cheap here but constantly on the rise......which is good for us!
Katz, I live in Colorado. And I'm not kidding, just 5 or 6 years ago, houses were around the 90,000 to 120,000 dollar range. *Maybe* 150,000-170,000 for the brand new ones. And they are already in the 220s, even for the older homes. It's crazy. You should move here if your husband is in real estate. House prices are jumping like crazy here.
I get bummed because where my inlaws live (the same area Jess lives) the housing is SO much more affordable and it's gorgeous there! I wish they would relocate hubby there, but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen for a few years. Would love to find acreage that doesn't cost 250,000 per lot. Which isn't even an acre by the way! =P

We just bought a bank foreclosure (so we got it for less than most people would.....and with some repairs in the making) with 3 bedrooms, 3 full baths, a nice decent size kitchen w/ double wall oven and a stove top, a fireplace room (as I call it) a seperate dining room and a family room. A full basement with only 200 sq ft. unfinished. Total living space 3005....we have aprox. 1/2 an acre (still trying to figure out where the boundary lines are as we pay city and county taxes and w/ a bank foreclosure they don't even know where our property lines are) And an in ground pool. Going price around here, I'm guessing about 250,000 or more and we got it for 199,900. OH geez, I just looked at Realtor.com and it was pulling houses w/ similar specs for 400,000!!!!
Wow! Congrats! A pool even? That would be soooooooooooo nice :) Be sure to check into the requirements for in-ground pools in your area. Where I live, if you have one, you HAVE to have it fenced with a warning sign for liability reasons (like if kids tried sneaking in and trying to use the pool) Often, if you fence it, it will lower your insurance as well. But that's in Colorado...

Hunter: I do know that the pool has to be fenced in, which it is. Unfortunately we won't be able to use it this year unless we can magically find the money to get the liner replaced and it in running condition.
Wow!!! Kitty, those are some very steep prices. There is a house here we were looking at with 25 acres and it was close to 300 thousand....the house was built in 03. I know I couldn't afford to live in California. I guess I am lucky to live in such a cheap state.
Yep! It's cheap here in Texas. I have a friend that moved here from California. Her house was like 1200 sq ft in CA. She moved here and was able to buy a house in Southlake (Paige, you are probably familiar with Southlake) that had close to 4,000 sq. ft. And Soutlake is one of the most wealthy areas here!
Puttin: our pool is one that has a liner in it. I know there are some out there that instead of a liner they have painted cement and tile and what not, I just have never been fortunate enough to see on in person. Here's what I'm talking about:
there's holes in the liner and who ever closed it up (the bank i think) used chicken fencing and a tarp NAILED between 2 two by fours....as you see the two by fours are in the pool itself and in some places the nails are exposed.
