It has taken me all week to get up enough strength to write this sad message. On monday march 13th, at 12:34 a.m. we lost our little kitty P.W.
I have been a wreck all week and couldn't even hardly come onto this site.
We went to my parents house for sunday dinner. When we left, she was fine. In fact she had been soooo playful all weekend. We went to a movie after dinner and we got back home just a little before 10. We found her on the couch, flat on her side, panting and gasping for air. We rushed her to the emergency vet right away. I started crying when we found her had hardly stopped crying for the next 24 hours. He put her on oxygen, and took x-rays. When we got her we were told she had a heart murmer, but it wasn't stressed about when she told us, so we figured it wasn't a huge deal. We her heart was so enlarged it was taking up almost 90% of her chest cavity. Her lungs were filling full of fluid, and she had hypothermia. He then told us, after reviewing her chart, that she had a class 5 out of 6 heart murmer. Then he explained that she was experiencing heart failure...the equivalent of having a massive heart attack.
We were told IF she made if through the night, she probably wouldn't even live a year. We could try to keep her alive on medication and try taking her to a heart specialist. But even with doing this she could have another attack at any time. He said they come very sudden and anything could send her over the top again, including drinking too much water, or sneezing. We finally decided that it would be best to just let her pass. So we had to make the hardest decision ever and put her to sleep.
It was the first time i have ever seen my husband cry.
Monday, we picked up her body, kevin made her a beautiful casket, and we burried her.
Then monday night we were called and asked to foster some puppies. They have been so helpful to help keep us to busy to think about her and cry. She will always be in our hearts. She was one of a kind and will be missed.
I am so very sorry. I know how hard that must be for you. We have two cats who are older and I get nervous that something will happen soon and a choice will have to be made. I hope nothing has to be done for a long time but I still think about it. Just know that she is happy now and in no pain.
Oh man Jess....I am so sorry I know how excited you were to get her. I wish there was something I could do to make you feel better. Promise me that you will hug those cute doggies of yours and know that you probably made that kitties life full of happiness in the short time that she was here. If you ever want to talk, PM me, because I had the same situation happen with the first dog I ever owned after graduating high school. I've never told anyone about him, but it was hard on me too, so I completely understand. Take care and again, I'm sorry...

I'm so sorry for your loss, Jess!! I know how hard that is when you have to make that decision- prolly one of the hardest decisions you ever have to make in your life- putting down a beloved pet/family member. She really was a beautiful cat.
Oh Jessica, I am sooooo sorry this has happened, I am saddened along with you. tears in my eyes too. I'm glad she did not die alone and that you could help her to ease her pain and into the rainbow land of pet spirits. She was just beautiful.
I'm sorry about the loss of your kitty. When you get a new pet, you can prepare yourself for a long-term commitment to that pet, but I don't think there is any way to prepare yourself for having that pet taken away from you so suddenly. Although it's probably not much consolation right now, I'm sure she enjoyed being able to experience the love that you and Kevin gave to her and was able to pass in peace because she was with people who loved her.
