A short time back I posted about the new website and how I was having to wait for the furum name thefurum.com to be released before I could purchase it again for the new site. (When a name expires, it's held for a period of time to give the owner time to renew it). It was being held by GoDaddy and I didn't want to use them anymore so had to wait for them to release it.
Well....they did. I wasn't sure of the 'exact' day it would be released, but knew a close date.
As of May 6th, someone else has purchased this name. It is listed to a 'company' but that could simply be the result of a 'privacy ID' which you can apply to a domain so no one will know who it belongs to. I did that with GoDaddy. I don't know if a company really did buy it (would have only been for re-sale) or if it was done out of spite - but it was done. I just can't see someone buying this name to use on their own or re-sale because its not a popular name, but maybe that really did happen. In fairness, there are companies who buy up expired domain names hoping the original owner will cough up big bucks to get them back. That is a possibility here.
Either way, I'm not going to sweat it. I have already purchased a new domain name that rings similar to the popular MySpace domain. The obvious ones like PetSpace, DogSpace, CatSpace were taken, but I was able to get creative and get a good one. I had thought about just moving us to MySpace, but I can't personalize it like I can with a domain.
The forum will still be called The Furum, I'm not going to change that, but wanted to update you all about the domain change. Once this new domain is set in place, the new website will be FTP'd over and it will be available on the web. I am hoping this can still be done by the 10th, but we'll have to see.
JT's first words were "there's going to be a furum hate site"....lol. I don't think thats the case as everyone seems calmed down now, but if any kind of a site comes up under that domain.....it is not mine. Hopefully, whoever has the name will do it justice.
