My dad crashed his bike tonight...in pretty bad shape.

I'm beginning to feel like a broken record.....this is just not the year for us.  January I had emergency surgery, April Napster got shot, May JT's brother dies, and last night my father was in a bad wreck.

He had finally gotten him a Harley about 3 years ago and loved to ride it.  We always worried about him because he is diabetic and his vision isn't good.  Tonight it got him.

He wasn't looking where he was going and there was a car in front of him.  He was looking at something else and when he turned around the car had stopped to make a left turn....he either had to hit her or go around her....he tried to go around her but clipped her car and his bike went out from underneath him.  He skidded down the pavement a good ways.

He's torn up pretty bad.  Has a broken elbow, 2 cracked ribs and lost a lot of skin.  He has numerous brusies and deep cuts too.  Fortunately, he was wearing a helmet....else it would have killed him.  His helmet is made of steel and there are grooves cut down into the steel where his helmet hit the pavement.  It would have crushed his head if it wasn't on.

We got the call from the ER about 10:30PM.  My mom is 3 counties away taking care of her dad (she goes to stay with him a few days every other week).  JT and I went to the hospital and they hadn't cleaned him up yet....he was covered in blood and shaking BAD.  It scared me to death.  The shaking was from fear and shock, no doubt.  His heart rate was racing.  It was just a mess but I held together and explained to him that the shaking was normal.  I didn't want him to tense up any more than he already was so I talked to him calmly so that he would calm down as well.  I've never had to hold something back so hard in my life, but I couldn't let him see me break down as it would have only scared him more.

They fear internal injuries and will be running tests on that in the morning.  He cant eat or drink because there might be glass in his kidneys and his kidneys are already damaged because of the diabetes.  I can only hope and pray that there is nothing internal.

I told JT back in January (before my surgery) that I had a strange feeling this wasn't going to be a good year for us.  My father had that same feeling back in 1988 (I remember him saying it that January) and that year we lost 5 family members and close friends.....one being my sister.  Its like I had a "vision" or a "feeling" this year too....and its playing out to be true.  I will be so glad when this year is over.....but I'm honestly frightened of whats yet to come.

My dad is 54 and severe diabetic....so please say a little prayer for him.....of just a warm wish.  I do believe in the power of collective thoughts and we could sure use some positive ones flowing our way right now.

My mother still doesn't know.  He didnt't want her to know because there is nothing she can do and he doesn't want her worrying or having to leave her father earlier than planned.  We were told that as of right now, it does not appear to be life threatening, but will know more when his test results come back.  If something comes back wrong....JT will immediately go get her then.  I just feel I have to respect his wish on this.  I have told my brother and we are the only ones who know.  It's just wrong not to tell my mother, but I can understand his position as well.  Talk about a stressful night!!

Anyway, I will update with more when we get the test results back.  This is my "talking" place....where I come to talk when bad things happen.  I've been spending a little too much time here this year in that sense.  Man, I hope our luck changes.

OMG! I hope he is okay. The first thing I thought of when I saw this was "not again!" and by that I meant just not another thing happening to you and your family. We are sending you all the best wishes, not only to your dad but also to you that you have a better year where nothig else happens. Well, nothing bad anyway.

I'm sorry to hear about all of these problems, Ansy. I do hope things get better for you.

My dad was in a motorcycle wreck back when my mom was pregnant with me. He was leaving a party and had been drinking and ran off the road into a ditch. A cop car was passing where he crashed and he saw the reflection off of one of my dads mirrors. He was in a coma for 8 days and had no idea where he was when he was waking up. The only thing that saved him was it was a cold night in October and he had his helmet on. It's so important to wear a helmet and I can't believe it when people don't when they're riding a motorcycle.

Best of luck.

I'm sorry about your dad and also the spot you're in about whether or not to tell your mom.  Hopefully, the injuries you know about are the only ones he has.  I'm glad he was wearing a helmet; they save lives.  I'm sending good thoughts his way (and yours) and wishes for a better year for your family.

Thanks ya'll.

He is home from the hospital.  There were no internal injuries and the elbow wasn't broken.  He has 3 broken ribs that are broke right where they connect to the back bone and lost quite a bit of skin on his arms and hands.  He's moving around pretty slow because he's in a lot of pain but he will be ok.  The possibility of internal injuries really worried me because of his diabetes, but the x-rays didn't show anything.

I will get som pics of him and his bike up soon, but will put them in link form so no one has to see them that doesn't want to.

I'm going to absorb myself into a website now.  Maybe finish up some of the FurSpace.

So happy everything is going great for him!!!! He's a very lucky man! When I had my bike accident 10? years ago I had 4 broken ribs, it will be sometime before he's moving around good again. Mine still hurt from time to time. Best thing for him right now is to sit back and watch some TV with a drink in one hand and the remote in the other!
