Okay...let me try to make a long story short. I hate my neighbors dogs...well actually just one of them. It all started on Wednesday with them getting into our backyard. At first it was okay because Murphy loved them. They are two labs...a chocolate and black. Well the next day the black one decided to come in the house via dog door. He was actually pretty good just laying in the laundry room. Then with two failed trys at fixing the fence the dogs were a regular in the backyard...Murphy loving every minute of it. Well...the worst happened. While we were in bed asleep the black one came in our house stole the dogs new chew bones, a king size hershey bar, a 12 count packet of hawiian sweet rolls, one of Murphys big stuffies, and about 10 more stuffed animals, oh yeah about a half a loaf of bread. The neighbors think it is so funny....cute my a$$..........Me and Brad spent two hours out in the rain yesteday morning fixing the fence...neighbors no where to be found. So far they haven't come back. I don't mind the chocolate lab, he is a total cutey and never came in the house. Just thought I would fill y'all in with our weekly mishap.

If it was my dog that did that I would probably also get a chuckle out of it like your neighbors did (probably out of embarrassment) but I would also be very apologetic, give full reimbursement for items taken as well as immediately fix the fence myself.
Be real cool about it. IF ALL MY DOGS DID WAS REIMBURSIBLE, I WOULD BE HOT FOR IT. Just tell them what the dogs' bill came to, just like they were visiting a resort. Everything's ok, as long as we have money. If they have any attitude, tell them you were sure that they could pay when the dogs did the mess, or you would have reported it.
